Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Joe Sample & Lalah Hathaway

Song Lives On
GRP, 1999. Used
A wonderful collaboration between vocalist Lalah Hathaway and keyboardist Joe Sample – one of Lalah's few sessions from this under-recorded point in her career – and a set that's quit different than the straighter soul of her earlier music! Sample's warm tones really bring out a lot in ... CD

Ashford & Simpson

Very Best Of Ashford & Simpson
Warner/Rhino, 1970s/Early 80s. Used
15 tracks – and a great selection of work by the team of Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson! The pair started out doing some excellent work at Motown during the early 70s – but it wasn't until they moved to Warner in the middle of the decade that they began to emerge as the powerhouse ... CD

Noel Pointer

Hold On
United Artists/Blue Note, 1976. Used
Early work from Noel Pointer – recorded in a smooth, soulful mode with plenty of help on arrangements and production from Dave Grusin! Like Dave's best work from the time, the set's got a feel that's tight, but never as commercial or cloying as mainstream fusion a few years later – and ... CD

Prince

Prince
Warner, 1979. Used
An overlooked record in the grand scheme – which is unforgivable in our book! This self-titled album Prince's second album, and already his vision is becoming a little more focused, and you can really hear the seeds of his later efforts – a really remarkable, unique, and fascinating ... CD
Rounder, 1982. Used
Later work from New Orleans legend James Booker – but a set that may well be one of his greatest records ever – a real back to basics effort recorded with a hands-off approach that almost makes you feel like you're catching Booker in some small club down off the Quarter! James plays ... CD
Liberty/PTG (Netherlands), 1981. Used
Classic 80s funk from Xavier – a group led by bassist Ernest Smith, who'd already had plenty of practice working with Isaac Hayes, The Midnight Movers, and The Coasters during their funky late 60s years! The groove here is similar to some of the other tight funk groups on Liberty at the time ... CD
Blue Moon/Big Break (UK), 1995. Used 2CDs
A later date from 70s soul legend Randy Crawford – cut overseas, at a time when she was initially without US representation – a situation that was immediately corrected with the strength of the album! The set has Randy really getting back to basics – mostly working with tight ... CD
Okeh/Epic, 1960s. Used 2 CDs
Major Lance was one of Chicago's first big soul stars – crossing over big on the charts with huge hits for the Okeh label during the early and mid 60s. That work is very fairly represented here on this 40 track set – with great notes, and a rich selection of songs that even includes a ... CD
Arista, 1980s. Used
14 tracks in all – including "Help Yourself To My Love", "I Just Gotta Have You", "Are You The Woman", "Stone Love", "Ain't No Woman", "Reservations For Two", "Love Changes", and "Love Me All Over". CD
United Artists/Rhino, 1972. Used
A monster from start to finish – not only the greatest album from War, but maybe one of the greatest mainstream funk albums of all time! The set's got a really unique groove – one that so many others tried to copy, but which was forged here first – in a wicked LA blend of Chicano ... CD
