Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible. All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

With our Used CDs, you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks — clean, and not dirty at all. You can also expect the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves — putting fresh cases on Used CDs we handle) — and you can expect the booklet to be in good shape, unless noted otherwise. We will list any specific details/defects underneath the item — so look for notes on cutout marks in the case, stamps on the barcode, or details like that.

Prince

Purple Rain
Warner, 1984. Used
One of the greatest crossover albums of the 80s – and the record that catapulted Prince very firmly into the mainstream! There's a tightness here that surpasses even that of Prince's early classics for Warner Brothers – an unabashed love of a pop hook that makes for some incredibly ... CD

Aretha Franklin

Aretha (1986)
Arista, 1986. Used
A big one from Aretha Franklin's 80s comeback years on Arista Records – a set that features a surprising guest appearance from Keith Richards, but mostly concentrates on Franklin's successful run with producer/arranger Narada Michael Walden – who continues to do a great job of updating ... CD

Isaac Hayes

Isaac Hayes Movement
Stax/Enterprise, 1970. Used
Stellar soul from Isaac Hayes – just the sort of overblown masterpiece that made his early solo work on Stax Records so great! The record features only 4 long tracks – all of which go on in that slow-building style that Ike forged at the time – a mode that takes a few simple ... CD
Polydor, Late 70s/Early 80s. Used
Great later work by Isaac Hayes – working here in a post-Stax, post-ABC mode that has him forging a smooth soul sound that's really great! The Polydor years saw Ike extending the baroque style that he started on earlier work – taking it into a modern soul vein with strings, keyboards, ... CD

Shirley Murdock

Shirley Murdock
Elektra, 1985. Used
The breakout album from Shirley Murdock – a singer who first rose to fame working with Roger Troutman and Zapp – and who gets plenty of help here from that side of the soul spectrum too! Roger produced and plays on the record, and also wrote most of the songs too – and Larry ... CD

New Formula
Motown, 1990. Used

Polygram, 1984. Used
A bit dated, but an indisputable classic from Cameo – one that has them changing up their sound from earlier albums! The heavier funk of some of their late 70s sides is long gone, and in its place is a more stripped-down style that relies more on electric percussion and keyboards to update ... CD

Giorgio Moroder

From Here To Eternity
Oasis/Repertoire, 1977. Used
A classic from the electro maestro – arguably the greatest American album from Giorgio Moroder! The set's got a great mix of disco and electronics that was years ahead of its time – and is surprisingly fresh and edgey, despite Moroder's fame over the years. Electronics are really at ... CD

Floetry

Floetic
Dreamworks, 2002. Used
The debut album from Floetry – a sweet batch of NuSoul tunes with a street harmony feel! The pair are London-bred, spent time in Atlanta's hotly bubbling scene, and are now part of the massive Philly underground that's been rocking the world over the past few years. This debut more than ... CD
