Bridging The Gap

CD (Item 487538) Reprise, 1991 — Condition: Used
$4.99 ...

CD

Roger Troutman's definitely trying to bridge a few different gaps in soul music with this later solo effort – some of his earlier funk, his mid-period electro, and even a bit more mature ballad work – which rounds out the album nicely! Given that Roger initiated so many modes that others had picked on by this point, the shift towards some more sensitive material turns out to be a great shift – one that keeps Troutman from being an outdated funk act, and which instead helps turn that unmistakable ear for a groove towards some mellower stepping tracks that are maybe the best on the record. Titles include "Victim Of Love", "Hurry Up", "Love Incorporated", "Break Through", "Curiosity", "Take Me Back", and "Everybody Get Up".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

One of the most obscure – and best – albums by David Oliver, a smooth soul singer who recorded at the end of the 70s, with a warmly spiritual sound that had touches of Leon Ware, DJ Rogers, and other 70s smooth soul greats. This gem is produced by Wayne Henderson – who's really ... CD

I Cry, I Smile
Wounded Bird, 1977. Used
One of Narada Michael Walden's best albums from the late 70s – a sweet blend of jazz funk and soul, done with a slightly spiritual sound, and lots of nice touches on keyboards! Walden's a bit subtler than some of his contemporaries, but that makes for a album that opens itself up more and ... CD
