Back To Funk – A Selection Of Killer Cuts From The Eastbound/Westbound Collective

CD (Item 486749) BGP (UK), Early 70s — Condition: Used

CD

✈
Massive set of funky instrumental tracks recorded for the legendary Eastbound label – the short-lived jazz/funk imprint of Westbound. After Bob Porter, the producer who made the great funky records at Prestige, left that label, he moved over to Eastbound to continue his masterful work. This 8 track comp includes the version of "Hicky Burr" by Caesar Frazier, "Slippin' Into Darkness" and "Monkey Hips n Rice" by The 19th Whole, "Pain" by Houston Person, "Gettin' Off" by Bill Mason, and Alvin Cash's great single "Stone Thing". Great all the way through, with a full complement of cuts that we almost never see anymore! Plus, this CD also contains 3 bonus cuts that weren't on the LP version!  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

Numero, 1970s. Used
Hardly the gospel of your father's generation – and hardly even the gospel of previous Numero releases either – as the set's a wonderfully offbeat batch of tracks that definitely lives up to the "apocryphal" in the title! Production sounds and musical styles go way past the ... CD

A great little set that really looks at the wide range of sounds handled by Miami's TK Records powerhouse in the 70s – a label that's famous for its big disco hits, but which also had a lot more to offer, too! There's definitely some clubby cuts on the collection, but most of those are ... CD

For volume 2 of this great series, the folks at BBE got Jasper the Vinyl Junkie to compile a mass of grooves with a hard James Brown drumbreak sound, and a real JB's feel. Some of these are from more recent years – like "Cut Me Loose" by Push, "Tribute to JB Family" by ... CD

Brazilian grooves all over the place – and a wonderful assortment of tunes from the Warner, Atlantic, and Elektra vaults of the 60s and 70s! The set list goes way past the pop-bossa numbers that you might think from the cover, which is a cop from an old Atlantic compilation of the 60s – ... CD
