Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Chaka Khan

Chaka
Warner, 1978. Used
The classic late 70s solo debut by Chaka Khan – one that made Chaka a major star, and deservedly so! This beautiful album showed that she could stand very well on her own two feet without the help of Rufus, thank you. Of course, she's got some fantastic help from Arif Mardin, who works as ... CD

Randy Crawford

Don't Say It's Over
Warner, 1993. Used
A great mix of jazz and soul from Randy Crawford – and a 90s set that almost takes us back to the best sounds of her early career in the 70s! The work here is nicely relaxed – not trying for a hit, even when things are smooth or a bit uptempo – especially given the mis-steps that ... CD

Paul Kelly

Best Of Paul Kelly
Warner, Early 70s. Used
At the time of the original recordings on this CD, Paul Kelly was sort of a lost southern soul artist who was being issued by Warner Brothers during the time when they were really trying to cultivate a soul audience among white liberal hipsters. Oddly enough, the rerelease of the material on this ... CD

Cold Blood

Cold Blood/Sisyphus
Warner/Collectables, 1969/1971. Used
The first two albums by Cold Blood – a Bay Area collective of soul and rock players, with a sound that's a jamming tribute to the harder soul of the late 60s. Lydia Pense's the lead singer – with a style that's kind of a sweeter take on the Tina Turner sound – and the mixed band ... CD

Some of the most exciting years of James Brown's career so far – for a whole host of reasons! First off, James is really experimenting with different styles here – not just the roots of funk that would emerge more fully blown later in the 60s – but also bits of jazz as well, ... CD
King/Hip-O Select, 1966/1967. Used 2CD
James Brown lets it loose – exploding with a funkier, groovier sound here than in previous years, and really starting the extended groove that would blossom even more fully at the end of the 60s! The titles here are all pretty great – and given the strength of James at the time, the ... CD

Persuasions

Chirpin'
Elektra, 1977. Used
Acapella harmony soul from The Persuasions – still going strong in an older-styled mode that's more late 50s than it is late 70s! As with their other albums, the work on the set is an unusual blend of soul, rock, and pop numbers – all taken in a laidback doo woppy way – with only ... CD

Atlantic/Koch, 1971. Used
The King Curtis combo in all of its glory – really grooving hard here in a set of instrumental performances recorded at the same time as Aretha Franklin's famous live date at the Fillmore West! King backed Aretha up on her own record from Fillmore, but this set features all the instrumental ... CD
Atlantic/Rhino Handmade, 1960s. Used
