Reach For It (with bonus track)

CD (Item 485615) Epic, 1977 — Condition: Used
$6.99 ...

CD

A real breakthrough album for George Duke – one of his earliest for the Epic label, and an album that took him from the space funk underground to the top of the jazz charts! The album's got a great sound that mixes together all of Duke's influences – Latin rhythms, electric keyboard funk, and some of the freer jamming styles he picked up in the Bay Area scene – and he's joined here by strong crossover fusion players like Ndugu Chancler, Raul De Souza, and Stanley Clarke, all of whom help him forge a groove that's nice and tight. Includes the hit title track "Reach For It", plus the cuts "The End", "Diamonds", "Watch Out Baby", "Lemme At It", "Just For You", "Omi", and "Searchin My Mind". CD also features the previously unissued "Bring It On Home".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

George Duke

Don't Let Go
Epic, 1978. Used
A sweet bit of modern funk from George Duke – working here in a mode that's definitely tighter and more soul-based than his trippier albums of the early 70s – but also in a groove that's pretty darn sweet! George wonderfully blends together his jazz roots and some of the wider soul ... CD

The Hackett Horn gets a great spotlight here – in a classic mid 50s LP that pulls together earlier 78s recorded by Bobby at the end of the 30s! Modes are mostly traditional, but Hackett's cornet work really shines throughout – bursting out of mid-sized groups that are often driven by a ... CD

Tom Scott

Blow It Out
Epic, 1977. Used
Tom Scott blows it out strongly here – really hitting the right sort of smooth jazzy vibe to make the album one of his classics from the 70s! As on all Tom's work, the reed sound is still nice and sharp – that edge that appeared way back when Tom was doing great studio work in his ... CD
