Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Aloe Blacc

Good Things
Stones Throw, 2010. Used
Cinematic soul rooted in the rawer organ, drums and horns vibes that resonated deeply in records from north to south in the 70s – done with a lean, tight and head nodding groove no doubt informed by Aloe Blacc's own roots in hip hop – on his best album yet and one of best raw soul ... CD

Aloe Blacc

Shine Through
Stones Throw, 2006. Used
A batch of eclectic postmodern soul that's as original and instantly gratifying as anything we've heard on Stones Throw! Aloe Blacc more than lives up to the expectations we had for him after hearing his first couple of Stones Throw singles. His previous work in the adventurous hip hop outfit ... CD

India Arie

Acoustic Soul
Motown, 2000. Used
An incredible debut – and the birth of a genre! India Arie burst upon the Neo Soul scene with this sweet little set a few years back – and her career's been burning up ever since! The set's got all the best elements of some of the best indie soul of recent years – sweet beats, ... CD
Expansion (UK), 2004. Used
A very fitting title – as it's been a long time since we've heard from Alyson, and it's about time too! There's a sweetly seductive feel here that we don't remember from Alyson's older work – a mellower, more chilled out approach that slinks around with a slow and often jazzy groove ... CD

Big Brooklyn Red

Foreword
Big Brooklyn Red, 2003. Used
Forget this guy's name – which makes you think he's a blues singer – because the album's one of the best new male soul records we've heard in years! Big Brooklyn Red has a sweetly grooving style that's really unique for a male singer – never overdone, never caught up in the realm ... CD
Rice (Japan), 2005. Used 2 CDs
Massive work from the Incognito camp – a collection of rare tunes, singles, and remixes from Bluey's Rice Records label! The 2CD set has a very nice price – especially for a Japanese-only collection – and brings together work that's been scattered around a number of hard to find ... CD

Ledisi

Pieces Of Me
Verve, 2011. Used
A knockout from one of our favorite post millennium soul singers – beautiful stuff from Ledisi – perhaps her best album since moving up to Verve! Better than ever before, Ledisi is balancing insistent songcraft and deep, genuine emotion – it's the best of both worlds, really. ... CD
Shanachie, 2008. Used
Wonderful work from Kloud 9 – one of the classiest soul acts around, and one of the few who really know how to make the male duo style work! The mix of vocals here is totally great – a smooth, fluid approach that slinks around the gentle rhythms of the set nicely, but never in ways ... CD
Phonogram/Fontana (UK), 1989. Used
Standout early work from Swing Out Sister – the group's second album, and one of their best from the time! The team of Andrew Connell and Corinne Drewery had well proven their ability to craft a jazz-tinged tune on the first album – and on this set, they take off in a style that's a ... CD

Jill Scott & Others

Collaborations
Hidden Beach, 2007. Used 2 CDs
Jill Scott's a singer with a mighty generous spirit – and in addition to her own (all too few) recordings over the years, she's made some tremendous appearances on records under the leadership of other artists – a good deal of which are included in this set! Jill's not the kind of ... CD

D'Angelo

Voodoo
Virgin, 2000. Used
Sweet and gritty soul from D'Angelo – who takes a huge step into deeper territory on Voodoo – and it's one of the most monumental records of its time! On one level, Voodoo works as a nicely stripped-down session with a very classic soul feel. Gone are the overzealous flourishes that ... CD
