Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Enja/Ultra Vybe (Japan), 1978. Used
Beautiful solo piano from Mike Nock – and a record that grabs us a lot more than we would have expected! Nock's a player who's had so many different great moments, in so many different settings, it's almost easy to overlook a more subtle record like this – yet the album's got a sense ... CD

Elvin Jones

In Europe
Enja/Ultra Vybe (Japan), 1991. Used
An impressively spiritual set from Elvin Jones – recorded in Europe with some great accompaniment from reedmen Sonny Fortune and Ravil Coltrane! Both Fortune and Coltrane play in a mode that's clearly inspired by the latter's father – freely opening up with the angular and searching ... CD

McCoy Tyner

Remembering John
Enja, 1991. Used
McCoy Tyner certainly should have no trouble remembering John – given that Coltrane was once his old boss – but apart from that easy reference in the title, the set has plenty more to offer – and is easily one of the most dynamic Tyner trio sessions from the later years of his ... CD

Sun Ra & His Omniverse Arkestra

Destination Unknown
Enja (Germany), 1992. Used
One of Ra's last recordings – and a great one – caught live at a festival in Germany, with a group that includes Marshall Allen, Ahmed Abdullah, Jothan Callins, Tyrone Hill, Stanley Morgan, and Michael Ray. The set has that Ellingtonish flourish that crept into much of Ra's work after ... CD

Aki Takase & David Murray

Blue Monk
Enja (Germany), 1991. Used
One of the most striking albums we've ever heard from pianist Aki Takase – in large part because of some great work from David Murray on tenor sax – and some especially nice bass clarinet! The album's from a moment when it seemed as if duo modes were some of the best for Murray – ... CD

Cecil Taylor

Dark To Themselves
Enja/Blue Moon, 1976. Used
One of Cecil Taylor's most spiritual sessions of the 70s – a live set recorded in Yugoslavia in 1976, and done with this really open sound, but one that comes as much from the horns as it does from Cecil's piano! In fact, we might well say that the horns are the best attraction here – ... CD
Epic, 1977. Used
A real breakthrough album for George Duke – one of his earliest for the Epic label, and an album that took him from the space funk underground to the top of the jazz charts! The album's got a great sound that mixes together all of Duke's influences – Latin rhythms, electric keyboard ... CD
