Mother Nature's Son

CD (Item 483479) Mercury, 1993 — Condition: Used
$1.99 ...

CD

A relatively recent effort by singer Jon Lucien – quite different than his 70s work, but not in a bad way! Jon's voice is smooth and mellow, as always, and the arrangements are equally so – perhaps not as challenging as his early 70s work, but with a gentle and jazzy groove that still brings out some nice moments, especially on the older songs. The album includes remakes of "Would You Believe In Me" and "Mi Vida" – plus the tracks "Lonely For You", "Once Upon A Time", "Special Part Of Me", "Luna Mi Luna", and "Answer Me My Love".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Out of print, BMG music club pressing.)

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible. All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

With our Used CDs, you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks — clean, and not dirty at all. You can also expect the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves — putting fresh cases on Used CDs we handle) — and you can expect the booklet to be in good shape, unless noted otherwise. We will list any specific details/defects underneath the item — so look for notes on cutout marks in the case, stamps on the barcode, or details like that.

2 early albums by the great Shirley Horn – back to back on one CD! On Loads Of Love, Shirley sings some somber ballads over large orchestrations by Jimmy Jones – in a mode that's different from recent work, but which also shows that she's a great singer with a really sensitive style. ... CD

A really rich album by Sarah Vaughan – recorded in Paris in 1958, with orchestrations by Quincy Jones – and large group backing that includes some great tenor work by Zoot Sims! The session's one of Vaughan's most cohesive albums of the period, and although it's got "violins" ... CD

Excellent small group jazz work from Dinah – of the sort that's often quite tough to find on vinyl, and which represents some of her best work of all time! The album's got a good group of Mercury jazz players – like Clark Terry, Paul Quinichette, Cecil Payne, Wynton Kelly, and Jimmy ... CD

Crazy & Mixed Up
Pablo, 1982. Used
Nothing crazy and mixed up here, but a wonderful later date from Sarah Vaughan – one that's recorded with subtly sophisticated brilliance! The setting is easygoing and relaxed – far more so than most of Vaughan's records from many years past – and backing is provided by Roland ... CD

Beautiful work from Cassandra Wilson – a record that's every bit as great as some of her best from previous years – and one that also has a new sort of vibe, too! There's a quality to the set that's nicely laidback – a feeling that comes from the album's strong use of acoustic ... CD
