Chocolate Soul – Compilation Deluxe

CD (Item 483259) Chocolate Soul, 2002 — Condition: Used
Out Of Stock

4.60 40

A great sampling of some of the best underground soul in the US – the follow-up to the first Chocolate Soul compilation of a few years back, and an equally essential overview of independent music! Like the first volume, there's a great range of styles here – from straight soul to jazz funk to house and a smattering of hip hop. At least half the artists on the set are ones that we've never been able to find on full LPs, making the set equally important, even if you've been shopping our NuSoul section heavily. Titles include "Testin Me" by Peven Everett, "Magic" by The Rurals, "Higher" by Fertile Ground, "Hey Yo" by Tariq L, "Blacked Out" by Hemisphere, "Life Is What You Make It" by Mikel, "Connection" by The Trick, "Pray" by Karen Bernod, "My Momma Raised A G" by Medusa, "I Need You In The Fall" by Indio, "It's All Love" by Risingsons, and "Take Me Away" by Nuwamba. CD also features a "hidden suite" with "Still Goin ON" by Urban Ave 31 and "A Simple Life" by Amanda Ray.  © 1996-2015, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible. All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

With our Used CDs, you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks — clean, and not dirty at all. You can also expect the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves — putting fresh cases on Used CDs we handle) — and you can expect the booklet to be in good shape, unless noted otherwise. We will list any specific details/defects underneath the item — so look for notes on cutout marks in the case, stamps on the barcode, or details like that.

Def Soul, 2000. Used
Classic-styled soul from Musiq Soulchild – his debut set for Def Soul, and the start of a great run of mellow grooves! As you might guess from the compressed wording of the title, the tunes here have a great set of flow – a laidback, kicked-back sort of sound that's not nearly as full-o ... CD

One of Basie's biggest albums – but still a work of pure genius! "April In Paris" is one of the darkest jazz standards ever written, and it never sounded better than in this original version, which features that great ending in which Basie and the band stop, then start, then stop ... CD

Way I See It
Columbia, 2008. Used
Raphael Saadiq takes throwback soul and r&b to the next level on The Way I See It – rolling in a groove that recalls 60s Motown, grittier group soul, the sophisticated strings of the 70s scene, and subtle contemporary touches that keep it in the here and now! An awareness of the past and ... CD
