Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible. All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

With our Used CDs, you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks — clean, and not dirty at all. You can also expect the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves — putting fresh cases on Used CDs we handle) — and you can expect the booklet to be in good shape, unless noted otherwise. We will list any specific details/defects underneath the item — so look for notes on cutout marks in the case, stamps on the barcode, or details like that.

Urban Renewal
Kokopelli, 1995. Used
A smoother album than usual for Bobby – still filled with great original compositions, but done in a way that adds in more electric playing than before – especially on the keyboard and guitar tip. The sound isn't really that much in the vein of the Bobby Watson we love – even ... CD
Quiet As It's Kept
Red (Italy), 1999. Used
A cool late 90s set from reedman Bobby Watson – easily one of our favorite talents of his generation, working here in a laidback mode that's mighty nice! The set has Bobby blowing on both alto and soprano sax – the latter of which is always a treat – in a core combo that features ... CD

Columbia/DIW, 1992. Used
The Saxophone Masters here are George Coleman, Joe Henderson, and Billy Pierce – who join with Williams' trio in a set of older standards and 2 originals – ranging in styles, and with plenty of space to show off the solo talents of all parties involved. Williams is the strongest force ... CD
Someday My Prince Will Come
Eighty Eights/Columbia, 2003. Used
A wonderful return to form for the Great Jazz Trio of Hank Jones, Richard Davis, and Elvin Jones – a recent session, but one recorded with the warmth and imagination of their best 70s Japanese sets! The album's done in the ultra-high fidelity style of the 88's label – and features the ... CD
Advance
Enja, 1984. Used
An unusual early set as a leader from Bobby Watson – recorded during his initial batch of work with Curtis Lundy, but in a much freer style! The session's a live one – and has Bobby as the main soloist in a quartet that includes Jim McNeeley on piano, Todd Coolman on bass, and Adam ... CD
Miles Smiles
Columbia, 1966. Used
Miles Smiles, but his grin is a wry one – given the angular energy of the set! The album's a landmark effort from the mid 60s quintet that includes Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, and Tony Williams – all of whom work without fail to capture Davis' newly emerging approach to ... CD
Birds Of Fire
Columbia, 1972. Used
A great second album from Mahavishnu Orchestra – one that has them still very might in the same tight formation as the first! As before, there's a heck of a lot of power here – monstrous work on drums from Billy Cobham, sharp-edged guitar from John McLaughlin, and a range of great ... CD
On The Corner
Columbia, 1972. Used
A sublime bit of Miles Davis electric funk – one of the best-remembered electric sets from the 70s, and for good reason too! The tracks are long, the jams are hard, and the whole thing has a lot more funk than some of the noise you'd get on other Miles albums of the time – thanks to ... CD

Columbia, 1999. Used
A week's worth of work by Wynton Marsalis – tracks recorded over 7 different nights at the Village Vanguard, featuring the star trumpeter working with three different bands! Most of the lineup here is relatively similar – Wes Anderson on alto and soprano, and Wycliffe Gordon on ... CD
Columbia, 1994. Used 2CDs
Wynton Marsalis continues the strand of cultural exploration begun on his early 90s albums, and delves here into the world of gospel – playing spiritual themes with his septet of the time, and getting a bit of guest vocals from Marion Williams!
