Great early work from Oscar Peterson – recorded during his first few years with Norman Granz, and in an extremely spare style that only features added bass accompaniment on most tracks! The record's virtually a solo session – cut with a style that's got the energy of Bud Powell, mixed ... LP, Vinyl record album
A refreshingly new set of tunes for Oscar Peterson to work his magic on – titles pulled from the musical Fiorello, a big hit at the time of recording, but virtually forgotten now! As usual, Peterson makes more with the tunes than might ever have been there in the first place – but it's ... LP, Vinyl record album
Affinity – a beautiful word to describe the Peterson trio on this set – as at the time of the recording, Oscar's piano was perfectly matched with the bass of Ray Brown and the drums of Ed Thigpen! The album's got a simple genius that's hard to describe adequately – especially as ... LP, Vinyl record album
A sprightly mid 60s session from the Oscar Peterson Trio – one of the last live recordings from the famous lineup that featured Ray Brown on bass and Ed Thigpen on drums! The performance was captured at the Tivoli Gardens, in Copenhagen – and recorded in an open style that really gets ... LP, Vinyl record album
One of George Duke's best albums for the MPS label – and a set that has a sound that's a little bit more soul than before! The album uses a fair bit of vocals alongside Duke's funky keyboards – but in a way that's not nearly as smooth as some of his albums for Epic, and which still ... LP, Vinyl record album
The aura here is spreading wide – as George Duke really grows his sound strongly from the early years, and takes hold of a whole host of cosmic influences! The record's one of Duke's biggest for MPS – a beautiful balance between jazzy fusion and spacey soul – served up with help ... LP, Vinyl record album
An amazing package of work from George Duke – 6 of his legendary fusion albums for MPS Records, including the never-reissued double-length set Solus/The Inner Source! That incredible album is worth the price of the package alone – as it begins with some sublime trio work from Duke, ... LP, Vinyl record album
A great album of funky fusion for MPS! Keyboardist Joachim Kuhn heads up the group, but he's got some great rhythm backing from Alphonse Mouzon on drums and John Lee on bass, which makes the record groove way way more than some of his other titles! The keys are nice and spacey, and Philip ... LP, Vinyl record album
A really tripped-out, messed-up session from Don Sugarcane Harris – recorded live in Berlin, but with a freaky experimental style that's much farther out than most of his studio work! The group here is totally hip – a combo of mad hippies that includes Robert Wyatt on drums, Wolfgang ... LP, Vinyl record album
Solid soul from the amazing George Duke – a record with a fair bit more focus than some of his previous efforts for MPS, but still done with a free and righteous vibe overall! The album's one of the last before Duke moved into smoother soul territory for his US albums of the late 70s – ... LP, Vinyl record album
One of the most soul-based albums that Harris cut for MPS – still with plenty of jazzy touches overall, but also with vocals on nearly every track, in kind of a hipster crossover Bay Area style! Harris plays organ, bass, and percussion – in addition to his usual violin – and ... LP, Vinyl record album
