Introducing Kenny Burrell

LP (Item 48253) Blue Note, 1956 — Condition: Very Good+

Arguably one of the greatest Kenny Burrell albums ever! Unlike some of Kenny's other sessions, which hide his guitar in arrangements that are a bit too complicated – this one's a nicely stripped-down album that sets his hollow electric in a group with Tommy Flanagan on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, Kenny Clarke on drums, and Candido on conga. The tracks are nicely laidback, and Kenny hits some nice deep grooves on cuts like "Fugue N Blues", "Takeela", and "Delilah". Plus, the album also includes a totally cool percussion-only track – "Rhythmorama", which is a duet between Kenny Clarke and Candido!  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(70s white b pressing.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Fantasy, 1975. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
A second volume of Duke Ellington material from Kenny Burrell – and like the first, an extremely fresh look at the tunes – given the way things change up throughout the sessions! The presentation here is nicely varied – not just a big band take on the Duke, nor some small combo ... LP, Vinyl record album

Art Blakey

Big Beat
Blue Note, 1960. Near Mint-
One of the greatest Art Blakey Blue Note sessions of all time – and perhaps one of the greatest to realize the genius of the Jazz Messengers lineup that included Lee Morgan on trumpet, Wayne Shorter on tenor, and Bobby Timmons on piano! The trio of young talents are at the height of their ... LP, Vinyl record album

Lou Donaldson

Lush Life
Blue Note, 1967. Near Mint-
An unusual session from the heart of Lou Donaldson's return to Blue Note in the late 60s – a mellower date that stands in strong contrast to his funkier albums of the time! As you might guess from the title, there's a lusher feel going on here – one that has Lou's alto sax augmented by ... LP, Vinyl record album

Three Sounds

Live At The Lighthouse
Blue Note, Late 60s. Very Good
A great little session by The Three Sounds – and one that features the band grooving away in a style that's a lot more lively than some of their studio recordings from the time! The whole thing was captured live at the legendary Lighthouse – and Gene Harris plays both piano and organ, ... LP, Vinyl record album
Blue Note, 1976. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
An overlooked gem from Blue Note – a special live performance that brings together some of the label's funkiest and most soulful artists of the 70s! Joe Pass

Joy Spring
Blue Note, 1964. Near Mint-
A gem by Joe Pass – recorded "live" in the studio a few months before the For Django album, but never issued until the 70s! The set's got a freeness that you don't always hear in some of Pass' other more restrained work – and working with a quartet that includes Mike Wofford ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jackie McLean

Vertigo
Blue Note, 1963/1980. Very Good
Fantastic lost material from Jackie McLean! The set was recorded right before his "new thing" era – in the same period as the amazing Fickle Sonance album. Extensions
Blue Note, 1970. Very Good+
Brilliant work as a leader from McCoy Tyner – and easily one of his most righteous albums ever – a true batch of spiritual gems that really takes the John Coltrane legacy one step further! Pharoah Sanders

Karma
Impulse, 1969. Very Good Gatefold
Quite possibly the best-remembered album from Pharoah Sanders' legendary run at Impulse Records – a set that crossed over big, and sold to countless folks who might not have bought a jazz album this hip otherwise!
