Some of the most righteous soul of the 70s – the first two albums by Bill Withers, back to back on one CD, and with bonus tracks! Bill had a sound like nobody else – a blend of folksy guitar, deeply soulful vocals, spare funky backings, and the occasional touch of strings and larger orchestrations – just enough to take things to the next level, but not too much to bury Bill's shining light. The albums are filled with tunes that are both mainstream and underground soul classics – tunes you might have heard a million times, but which never get old, next to others that you'd never caught before, soon to become new favorites. The CD features the tracks "Harlem", "Ain't No Sunshine", "Grandma's Hands", "Hope She'll Be Happier", "Moanin & Groanin", "Better Off Dead", "I Don't Know", "Lean On Me", "Use Me", "Lonely Town Lonely Street", "Let Me In Your Life", "Who Is He & What Is He To You", and "Kissin My Love". CD also features 2 bonus tracks – "Better Days", from the soundtrack to Man & Boy, and "It's All Over Now", a duet with Bobby Womack!  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Cold Fact
Sussex/Light In The Attic, 1970. Used
One of a handful of enigmatic albums cut in the early 70s by Sixto Rodriguez – a Latin-tinged singer with a style that's a bit like that of Jose Feliciano, but trippier, and with more rock and folk touches! This set's probably his best one – thanks to arrangements and production by ... CD

One of the few cases in the history of pop music where the record is worth all the hype! Marvin blew everyone's mind when he unleashed this amazing suite of political soul tunes – not only just because he'd moved past the simple love songs of earlier years, but also because he was working ... CD

Sly & The Family Stone

Fresh
Epic, Early 70s. Used
Sly's leaping into the air on the cover of this one – and for good reason too, given the overall groove of the set! The album's a bit more stripped-down and upbeat than the previous few – almost more of a return to the simple funky style of the first albums, but with a slightly more ... CD
Warner, 1993. Used
A really well-titled set from Frankie Beverly & Maze – as the album takes the group right back to the mellow-stepping sound that first made them great back in the 70s! Production's a bit more updated, but still very laidback – and there's a smoothly-grooving glow to the record we ... CD

Boz Scaggs

Silk Degrees
Columbia, 1976. Used
Blue-eyed soul from Boz Scaggs, with a decidedly Philly influenced sound to the production, which we'd hazard a guess comes more from the Hall & Oates side of town than the Sigma Sound axis. Still, this is a solid album with the irresistible hit "Lowdown", still a favorite around ... CD

Welcome To the Pleasuredome
ZTT/Island, 1984. Used
Arguably one of the greatest concept albums of the 80s – and the only really strong full length album cut by Frankie Goes To Hollywood! At the time of the set, the group was riding high on the success and controversy of their singles "Relax" and "Two Tribes" – but ... CD
