"Le Spank" is probably the most successful track ever by this Rinder/Lewis side project – and for good reason, too! The cut's got a cool moogy groove that pops across the top nicely, a bit sparer than the rest of its disco contemporaries, and with a catchiness that's undeniable! This 12" version is over 10 minutes long, too! (Cover has a light stain at the top.)  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Back in the day, Chicago never had much of a rap scene – which is why it was so easy for Chicago radio DJ Casper to score big with this little groover on the AVI label! The cut's actually not bad as sort of a funky clubby track – and Casper's rapping style reminds us a lot of Gary Byrd ... 12-inch, Vinyl record

Salsoul, 1982. Very Good+
A gem of a disco track – later than most of the Salsoul Orchestra's hits, but handled by Patrick Adams with a soulful groove that makes Loleatta Holloway's vocals come off wonderfully! Remix by Shep Pettibone. 12-inch, Vinyl record

Ahhhhhhhhhh . . . Freak Out! What can we say? The cut's a monster – silly to be sure, but still with a choppy dancefloor groove that gets 'em every time! Nile Rogers, if you'd only stuck to guitar riffing like this, you'd have become President! 12-inch, Vinyl record
Sugar Hill, 1982. Very Good+
Old school track from Sugar Hill's female trio that does not feature the classic Sugar Hill rhythm section, but instead uses a more synthetic sound, along the lines of maybe the Dazz Band. 12-inch, Vinyl record

Frank Hooker and his group take on Philly International with "I Wanna Know Your Name" – all in a homegrown style that's a bit less dramatically soulful than The Blue Notes, but which still has some nice harmony moments on the chorus. "This Feelin" is back to the group's ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
Total Experience, 1982. Very Good-
An 80s groove classic! "Outstanding" has some wonderful funky grooves and a killer 80s sound that's complete with very fat bass pedal grooves, and some tight keyboard work! The hook's a monster, and this rare single offers up 2 versions not on the LP! 12-inch, Vinyl record

Sugar Hill, 1982. Near Mint-
A killer single from Trouble Funk, on Sugar Hill, with the band's trade mark percussive riffing, and as you'd expect from go go, loads of nice fills and breakdowns all centered around a fat rolling bass pedal groove. 12-inch, Vinyl record
Brunswick, 1979. Very Good-
What can we say? This is a classic! The track has a monster roller skating groove that's been sampled more than a few times over the years – but which still sounds incredible on its own! Both parts are great – and even though the single's pretty darn long, you still never want it to ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
