Betty Carter — Meet Betty Carter & Ray Bryant/Social Call ... CD 2.99
A classic album pairing the bop girl vocalist Betty Carter with the sensitive backing of Ray Bryant's piano! The setting is spare and fragile, and Betty's voice is in beautiful form. This is one of the few LPs that Betty cut during the time with a straight jazz feel – and it's filled with loads of nice tracks like "Sneaking Around", "Threesome", "Thou Swell", "No Moon At All", "Moonlight In Vermont", and "I Could Write A Book".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Shirley Horn

Embers & Ashes
Stereocraft, 1960. Very Good+
An early album by Shirley, and a haunting batch of lonely songs of lost love that has Shirley singing with her trio of Joe Benjamin and Herb Lovelle. Sammy Davis Jr & Laurindo Almeida

Sammy Davis Jr Sings – Laurindo Almeida Plays
Reprise, 1966. Very Good+
The closest thing Sammy D ever came to cutting a bossa album – and a lovely batch of fragile tunes that feature no other instrumentation save for the guitar of Laurindo Almeida. Almeida plays acoustic guitar on the album, in a gentle style that supports Sam's rich voice as it works through a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Waltz For Debby (Audio Clarity)
Philips, 1964. Sealed
One of the greatest albums ever cut by Swedish vocalist Monica Zetterlund – a landmark album that has her singing with the Bill Evans Trio! Ernestine Anderson

When The Sun Goes Down
Concord, 1985. Very Good+
A great cooker from the glory days of Ernestine Anderson on Concord Records – a time when the singer was rediscovered, and revamped in a bit of a bluesy mode – reaching a wide new audience at the time! Her vocals really shine at this point in her career, as she lets loose with a bit ... LP, Vinyl record album

Eddie Harris

Here Comes The Judge
Columbia, Mid 60s. Very Good+
A great lost album from Eddie! The record was one of his few cut for Columbia – recorded between his early years at Vee Jay and his hit years at Atlantic – and it's an excellent little batch of cuts, with a tight Chicago soulful grooving sound, and a strong approach that mixes hardbop ... Jack McDuff

Honeydripper
Prestige, 1961. Very Good+
One of the records that put a young Brother Jack McDuff on the map – and a perfect example of the rougher R&B roots that first emerged in his early work on the Hammond! The session's got a much more down-n-dirty feel than some of McDuff's tighter 60s quartet work – and offers a ... LP, Vinyl record album
