House Of The Rising Sun

LP (Item 478497) Casablanca, 1978 — Condition: Near Mint-
A compelling mix of styles from Santa Esmeralda – a group not only known for their Latin-inflected disco rhythms, but also for their cool talent of reworking 60s oldies for a 70s dancefloor! Jimmy Goings served up some soulful vocals amidst the fuller backings of the tunes – which include not only some soaring string arrangements, but also some key use of acoustic guitar – bringing a bit of a Chicano soul feel into the cuts. Titles include "The House Of The Rising Sun", "Quasimoto Suite", "Dance You Down Tonight", and "Hey Gip".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Donna Summer

I Remember Yesterday
Casablanca, 1977. Near Mint-
Sweet grooves from Donna Summer – who was still a rising star at this point in the 70s! The title is an honest one – for an album with songs that look back at 60s and earlier 70s soul songcraft – and even earlier than that – mostly via the groovy backup vocals. So, Ms. ... LP, Vinyl record album

Alec R Costandinos

Romeo & Juliet
Casablanca, 1977. Near Mint-
Without a doubt, Alec R. Costandinos was one of the strangest disco arranger/producers of the 70s! A double-length disco symphony – and a surprisingly good one at that! Ethnic Stew
ABC, 1974. Very Good+
A great bit of funk from this obscure 70s combo – the first of their many good albums, and with a sound that's rougher and rawer than the others.
