A tremendous start to the 60s for the legendary Stan Getz – a unique double-length album recorded in Copenhagen – and filled with some of his best work on record to date! There's a quality here that shows a whole new side of Getz – one that's slightly modern at times, but also slightly more introspective – a real hint at greater genius to come later in the 60s, but already fully in flower here in the setting of a European quartet with pianist Jan Johansson. Stan's still blowing a bit like on some of his earlier Verve albums – but there's also an edge that was never there before – a sharpness, a growing darkness, and more – all served up with a sense of tension that almost comes out best on the mellowest tunes. 2LPs worth of material – with titles that include "Amour", "Pammie's Tune", "Night & Day", "Land's End", "In Your Own Sweet Way", "In The Night", "Folks Who Live On The Hill", "Just A Child", and "Cafe Montmartre Blues". © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
