Battle Of Algiers

LP (Item 475473) United Artists, 1967 — Condition: Very Good+
A relatively dramatic score from Ennio Morricone– as you might guess from the military title! Some of the tunes here have a very strong military feel, but others move into surprisingly sweeter territory – that more mainstream side of Morricone's sound, but still pretty great – with full strings swelling up in lush sounds that are very compelling. There's also some subtly spooky sounds on a few of the numbers – the odd instrumental moments that Morricone could sneak in nicely on a score like this – conducted perfectly by orchestra director Bruno Nicolai. Titles include "Theme Of Ali", "Tortures", "Clandestine Marriage", "Battle Of Algiers March", "Sorrow In The Casbah", and "Algiers November 1 1954".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

A standout 60s soundtrack from the great Manos Hadjidakis – penned for a heist thriller from director Jules Dassin! Goldfinger
United Artists, 1964. Near Mint-

A swinging sex comedy score from the legendary Neal Hefti – not as well-known as some of his big 60s hits, but a wonderfully groovy record throughout! Naked Maja
United Artists, 1959. Near Mint-
A compelling score from Angelo Lavagnino – one that features all the lush, romantic touches you'd know from his Italian work – but which also has plenty of Spanish inflections, too – all in support of the film's story of the painter Goya! Henry Mancini

Gunn . . . Number One!
RCA, 1968. Very Good
Nice 60s crime jazz from Mancini! Although Mancini's fame was made in the late 50s for his work on the classic Peter Gunn TV show, it's less known that he also did the score for the less-than-successful Peter Gunn film. Directed in 1967 by Blake Edwards, the film was a weak attempt to transfer ... LP, Vinyl record album
