Girl & Her Songs

LP (Item 475159) RCA, 1957 — Condition: Very Good

One of the few RCA albums cut by singer Teddi King – a great vocalist who came out of a small jazz group setting, but who works equally well here with larger arrangements from George Siravo! The mood of the album is nice and light, with a few smaller instrumental groups on about half the tracks, and larger string-backed orchestrations on the others. Teddi's voice is sweet, but never cloying – and lightly dances over numbers that include "My Future Just Passed", "After All It's Spring", "A Sailboat In The Moonlight", "Chicken Today & Feathers Tomorrow", and "Laughing At Life".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Mono pressing with deep groove. Cover has light wear.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Sweet 50s vocals from Teddi King – a set that's arranged with a fuller style than her small combo sessions from the time – but which still shows her to be one of the most distinctive singers of her time! One of a number of great small group sessions done by singer Teddi King for the Storyville label – nicely relaxed, with backing from a septet that features Billy Taylor on piano, Bob Brookmeyer on trombone, Nick Travis on trumpet, and Gene Quill on alto! Lena & Michel
RCA, 1975. Sealed
A sweetly mellow album of 70s work from Lena – cut in a mode that's as soulful as her sides for the Skye label a few years earlier, and handled by the same producer too! The main difference in the style is the presence of Michel Legrand – working here in a mode that's still got the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Lonesome Gal
RCA, 1956. Very Good-
Moody set of vocals recorded by this obscure Chicago singer. Blue Starr
RCA, 1957. Near Mint-
Plenty of blue tones in Kay Starr's music here – those sad-tinged sounds that made her a real standout in 50s pop, served up here with some slightly jazzier elements as well! The record's a nice contrast to some of Kay's more familiar hits – in that it still shows her singing strongly ... LP, Vinyl record album

June Valli

Torch
RCA, 1958. Very Good
Torchy vocals from June Valli – a singer we don't know much, but who really sparkles on this late 50s set for RCA!
