LP, Vinyl record album

An obscure little disco album from singer Ann-Margret – one put together with the help of club maestro Paul Sabu, whose jamming little combo provide some of the nicest moments of the set! Ann-Margret herself is in that lusty 70s mode – singing very breathily, very much from below the belt – liberated in post-Tommy sensuality and an apt fit for the disco years! But it's Sabu who really makes the record work – and his own guitar riffs and the conga-led rhythms of the combo on the record are probably the best part here. They all provide a long Miami-styled groove that would sound great whether or not there were vocals on the set – and although AM's vocals don't ruin the action they get going, they certainly don't add much either. Titles include "Love Rush", "Midnight Message", "What I Do To Men", "For You", and "Never Gonna Let You Go". (Cover has a promo stamp & an unglued top seam.)  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

A gem of a record from vocalist Urszula Dudziak – the closest she ever came to doing a "straight" set of vocals, but still one that lives up to her unique style! Great late work by Lorez Alexandria – and one of the many worthwhile sides she cut for the Discovery label. An excellent 70s set by Jackie & Roy – very different than their work of the 50s and 60s, with an approach that's much more far-reaching and complicated – a style that opens up their vocal talents majestically! One of Bobby D's albums from his confused period in the mid 60s! Sounds sort of goofy, but it actually works, thanks to some swinging arrangements by Roger Kellaway, and the pep and zip of the score. An album recorded relatively early in the career of singer Nina Simone – but a set that already shows the very unique approach that would make her a legend by the time the 60s moved on! Sweet 70s funk from the great Oscar Brown – quite a change from his jazz-based work of the 60s, but a great new sitting for all of his wonderful wit and warmth!
