Fabulous Rhinestones

LP (Item 47424) Just Sunshine, 1972 — Condition: Very Good
Gatefold

A classic killer from The Fabulous Rhinestones – a group with a plenty soulful approach to their music, even if the group was probably more of a rock outfit than a funk-based one! There's some heavy rhythms on most of the tracks – kind of a gentle funky groove that's mixed in with great organ lines and sweet guitars – all to couch perfectly the lead vocals of Kal David, who sings with a raspy, earnest tune that really fits the grooves! The group are definitely lesser-known than some of the bigger funk rock acts of the time – but they're also one of the best, too. Titles include "Big Indian", "Positive Direction", "Nothing New", "Free", "Living On My Own Time", and "Easy As You Make It".  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has surface wear and a cutout hole.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Ramones

Road To Ruin
Sire, 1978. Very Good-
A prime Ramones classic from the late 70s – a set that's got Joey, Johnny, and crew really hitting right on the money – with the kind of short sharp tracks that made the group such a key bridge between the 60s and the blank generation! The energy here is phenomenal – the kind of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Chicago

Chicago II
Columbia, 1970. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
Chicago's second album – not as familiar as the first, and with some really great moments! The group is working here in the same extended-length format as on their debut, going for some more complicated tunes spread across the album's double length – jazzy riffing still firmly in place ... Blood Sweat & Tears

Blood Sweat & Tears 4
Columbia, 1971. Near Mint- Gatefold
We never really know whether we want to call Blood, Sweat & Tears a funky, soulful rock band, or a bunch of white guys making a respectable effort at curring soul albums, but either way, the stuff sounds good to us! By this point the group had enjoyed enough chart success to stretch out a bit, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Mike Oldfield

Hergest Ridge
Virgin, 1974. Near Mint-
A beautiful follow up to Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield – even if the slow building success of that classic first album ended up literally bypassing the newer Hergest Ridge on the charts at the time! Hergest Ridge, like its famous predecessor, it's the album is of a piece, in 2 parts, and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Rolling Stones

Sticky Fingers
Rolling Stones, 1971. Very Good+
Landmark work from The Rolling Stones – and a set that may well stand alongside Exile On Main Street for capturing the group at their height! The record's got the Stones very much in their own space – years from just putting a UK spin on American blues – and instead, finding a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Joni Mitchell

Blue
Reprise, 1971. Very Good Gatefold
A peak album for Joni and genuinely one of the greatest singer-singwriter albums of the 70s, if not ever, all the greater for the intimacy of the songs and beauty of her voice! Perfect isn't a word you want to throw around too often, but Joni Mitchell's Blue might be one of the rare perfect albums. ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ebony Rhythm Funk Campaign

Watchin' You, Watchin' Me
Chi Sound/United Artists, 1976. Sealed
A perfect example of the old adage that the funkier the band's name is, the less funky their music will be! Not that the group's really that bad or anything – they're just not the all-out party jam you'd expect from an ensemble with "ebony" and "funk" in their name. The ... LP, Vinyl record album

Oscar Brown Jr

Brother Where Are You
Atlantic, 1973. Near Mint-
Sweet 70s funk from the great Oscar Brown – quite a change from his jazz-based work of the 60s, but a great new sitting for all of his wonderful wit and warmth! Brown's still a hell of a songwriter, and one with a very socially-conscious eye – sharper here than before, with lots of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Marvelettes

Marvelettes
Tamla, 1967. Very Good
Classic stuff from the girls who emerged to become one of Motown's best groups of the late 60s years. The set features the group's great version of "The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game", still a big cut on the Chi-town steppers scene – plus a number of other covers and lesser ...
