Pre-Solar work from Lakeside, and a pretty great album overall – a bit more in an ensemble funk mode than some of the group's later music, but with a sound that's pretty tight overall! Frank Wilson produced and arranged, and there's a nice blend of bass-heavy rhythms and older-style harmony vocals sliding into play – a stepping back and forth quality that informs the grooves nicely, and which makes them come across with a fresher sound than before too much cliche settled into the California scene. Titles include "Shine On", "Taboo", "Miss Look But Don't Touch", "If I Didn't Have You", "IT's Not Only The Outside That Counts", and "Diamond Girl". (Cvoer has some wear, a promo stamp and a light stain or two.)  © 1996-2015, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Great stuff from the glory days of the LA bass-pedal funk era! The tracks manage to mix an 80s groove and soul without sounding cloying, and the band's vocals are always better than we remember them – with a strong harmony sound in the best moments that keeps things real. ABC, Early 70s. Very Good Gatefold
An obscure funky rockin' bluesy combo, with an integrated lineup, and instrumentation that includes organ, guitar, bass, and drums. The tracks are all originals, with a funky feel to them, and some good grooves on the best tracks. The lead singer's in kind of an Eric Burdon mode – but on the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Nice record by Brass Fever, and a one that was recorded before their more disco-y Time Is Running Out LP. ABC, 1973. Sealed
One of the greatest blacksploitation soundtracks ever – a massively beautiful record that goes beyond any cliches of the genre, and serves up a fantastically unique batch of tracks!
