Skins! – Bongo Party With Les Baxter

LP (Item 4730) Capitol, Late 50s — Condition: Very Good+
Very groovy LP of bongo-oriented tracks conducted by Les Baxter for "young America" (or so says the label!) The overall feel is nice and jazzy, and the tracks have a nice snapping bongo sound. Tracks include "Reverberasia", "Bustin the Bongos", "Brazilian Bash", and "Afro-Deesia" – and they all sound as great as the titles might imply.  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Mono rainbow label pressing. Cover has a split spine and top seam, a small rip on the bottom right corner, and light surface wear.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Brass & Bamboo
Capitol, 1959. Near Mint-
One of the best albums by Tak Shindo – a west coast Japanese composer/arranger who was one of the few exotica artists to actually have the cultural cred to the sound! Capitol, 1969. Very Good-
A record that's definitely after our own heart – in case you couldn't tell from the title! The set has Jackie Gleason expanding his bag a bit for the late 60s – moving from the easy sound to the "Now Sound" – with the help of some cool electric sitar, pictured on the ... LP, Vinyl record album

A sweet little album from Laurindo Almeida and his "Bossa Nova All Stars" – not a group of Brazilian musicians, and instead a hip set of LA players who really help make the set sparkle! Pacific Jazz, 1967. Very Good+ Gatefold
Fantastic record, and perhaps the best thing that Victor Feldman ever did. He takes his vibes and marimba – which are normally very snoozy in a jazz context – and gives them a nice Now Sound twist, with a cool studio South American feel. He plays with some great LA studio players ... LP, Vinyl record album
