The soul of Ben Webster is always plenty deep – but it seems to sound especially so in this great small combo session for Verve – a date that features some key guest players, and which breaks the mold a bit from Ben's other dates for the label! Webster's sharing tenor chair here with Harold Ashby, and the presence of the pair makes for some really wonderful interplay, and a sound that's sometimes full, despite the small combo on the record. Other members include Art Farmer on trumpet – a great surprise here – plus Jimmy Jones on piano, Mundell Lowe on guitar, Milt Hinton on bass, and the mighty Dave Bailey on drums.
