A pretty great little album – a 2LP set that features 4 sides of Salsoul classics, mixed together! The "non-stop dancing" holds out for the course of each side – as as many as 6 tracks are mixed back to back, in classic 70s disco mode. Titles include "Spring Rain" ... LP, Vinyl record album
Early work by Kongas – recorded in France in the mid 70's, but released by Salsoul in the US in 1978. The group have an Afro Funk approach, filtered through more of a disco groove – long tracks with percussion and tribal touches, very rhythmically grooving all the way through. The ... A wonderful album – one of those underground classics that seems to show up in everyone's record collection, even though it was never a huge chart hit. Pure magic from the height of Roy Ayers' classic 70s run on Polydor – a record that's filled with warm, jazzy grooves – all served up in that unique style that Roy was forging at the time! Genius work from William De Vaughn – recorded years after his classic "Be Thankful" album, and with a different, modern soul feel – but equally great in its own sort of way! The album came 6 years after De Vaughn's classic crossover hit of the mid 70s – and it's got the ... LP, Vinyl record album
Transition is right – as the cover has Barbara floating above a Curtis Mayfield-ish scene of drugs, war, gambling, and Satan – a really righteous image that beautifully sums up the vibe of the record! The set was recorded at Sigma Sound in Philly – with excellent arrangements ... LP, Vinyl record album
One of the few cases in the history of pop music where the record is worth all the hype! Marvin blew everyone's mind when he unleashed this amazing suite of political soul tunes – not only just because he'd moved past the simple love songs of earlier years, but also because he was working ... Righteous soul, but with a wicked groove too – a killer set from Aquarian Dream, made even better by some great Norman Connors production! In a way, Aquarian Dream were to Norman Connors what Ramp were to Roy Ayers – in that the group wasn't really that dominated by Connors, but they ... LP, Vinyl record album
A tremendous debut from Ace Spectrum – a harmony quartet who never cracked the charts as much as some of their east coast contemporaries, but who were every bit as great as the bigger names on the east coast scene! The album's got a soaring sound that's strongly influenced by Philly, but ... LP, Vinyl record album
