Classy soul from Patti Austin – working here with some great help from Quincy Jones, Narada Michael Walden, and others – all of whom help her find just the right space to groove nicely! Patti's one of those soul singers who always sparkles best in a smoother setting – and the polished mid 80s style of this one helps her hit a new level of maturity – one that shines out strongly, even amidst some of the more electric backings – with enough jazzy inflections to remind us of Patti's roots, and her long association with Quincy Jones over the years. Titles include "It's Gonna Be Special", "Shoot The Moon", "Rhythm Of The Street", "Fine Fine Fella", "Starstruck", "Any Way You Can", and "Change Your Attitude". (Cover has a cut corner.)  © 1996-2015, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Fantasy, 1976. Fair Gatefold
Quite possibly the funkiest album ever from Pleasure – and that's saying a heck of a lot! The album grooves from the very first note – and moves through some of the group's tightest, most rock-solid numbers – all of which use their trademark blend of funky and soul, but which ... Curtom, 1972. Near Mint- Gatefold
A post-Curtis Mayfield album by The Impressions – but one that crackles with the raw righteousness of Curtis' first few solo albums on Curtom! Mayfield's place here is held by the amazing Leroy Hutson – one of our favorite soul talents of the 70s, really sparkling here in the trio ... LP, Vinyl record album

Hard Not To Like It
Philadelphia International, 1977. Very Good+
One of the strong Philly LPs by Archie Bell and the Drells (and they really did make the transition to Philly pretty well). Side one has some of their more blatent attempts to appeal to the then hot disco crowd, but side two has them back in a great easy soul two-step sound, like "It's Hard ... LP, Vinyl record album
