A great single from Aural Exciters – a hip New York ensemble from the late 70s, one of the seminal groups of the downtown post-disco crossover scene! The tracks feature work by August Darnell, James Chance, Bob Blank, Taana Gardner, and Coati Mundi – and is very much in the playful ensemble dancefloor mode of some of Darnell's other projects from the time – a bit more soulful than Kid Creole, with less of the quirky disco of other groups, and a very solid approach overall! "Spooks In Space" has a great chanting vocal quality, undercut nicely by a stepping space-bound bassline – and "Marathon Runner" is more standard club, but in a way that features some great vocals from Gardner!  © 1996-2016, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Clean On Your Bean #1/Go Bang! #5
Sleeping Bag, 1982. Good+
A spacey disco classic! "Go Bang" is a wonderful tune – with a jaunty vocal refrain that's laid over some off-kilter keyboard rhythms infused with bass. "Clean On Your Bean" is almost as nice, and even more dubby. Arthur Russell produced, and Francois K mixed! 12-inch, Vinyl record

Casablanca, 1976. Very Good Gatefold (pic cover)
Fantastic! This is the kind of stuff that the 12" single was invented for – as Donna snakes and orgasms her way through 16 minutes of "Love To Love You Baby". The track has loads of changes and spare passages – and the cool electronic work by Giorgio Moroder sends us ... 12-inch, Vinyl record

You Can't Turn Me Away/Pick Up The Pieces
Expansion (UK), 1980/1985. Near Mint-
Totally cool UK 12" reissue single that includes this excellent, much-sampled, and very sought-after track by Sylvia Striplin. Even if you don't know it, you'll recognize the sample in the intro, and believe us, the rest of the track more than lives up to the first 10 seconds! It's got sweet ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
