Show/Recital

LP (Item 46875) Philips (Brazil), 1968 — Condition: Very Good
A great album by Baden Powell – very much in the spirit of his Afro Sambas classic! The rare recording was done with Os Originais Do Samba, who join Baden on most of the record to really liven things up. The group add in vocals and heavy percussion to Baden's guitar – making tracks like "Samba Da Bencao", "Apelo", and "Canto De Pedra Preta" groove very nicely, with that baroque heavenly quality that we love in Baden's Afro Samba work. The album also features a long driving version of "Berimbau", plus the tracks "Vento Vadio" and "Marcha Escocesa".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Maria Bethania

Ciclo
Philips (Brazil), 1983. Near Mint-
A nicely rootsy little album from Maria Bethania – recorded during a period when some of her music could often sound much fuller and more electric! The album's got subtle help from Toninho Horta, Dori Caymmi, and Guto Graca Mello – all of whom arrange Maria's vocals in a sophisticated ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jorge Ben

Ben E Samba Bom
Philips (Brazil), Early 60s. Near Mint-
Amazing stuff! Jorge Ben never made a bad record in the 60s – and this is one of his best! The album's filled with tight jaunty numbers that mix big band samba arrangements with quickly strummed guitar, and Jorge's wonderfully raw vocals – all classic stuff for Jorge, but a style that ... Chico Buarque, Nara Leao, & Others

Os Saltimbancos
Philips (Brazil), 1977. Very Good+
One of the strangest albums in the career of Chico Buarque – and one of the best-remembered too! Os Saltimbancos is a children's play adapted by Buarque from original text by Sergio Bardotti – set to music by Luiz Enriquez Bacalov, and recorded in both Rome and Rio! Most of the album ... Great live material from 1974, recorded in Bahia, and featuring Caetano, Gal, and Gilberto Gil – each performing tracks on their own! A great early album by this instrumental combo from the 70s – and one that's a perfect realization of their mix of rootsy instrumentation with more jazzy conceptions. The arrangements on the record are by Toninho Alves, and tracks include "Tres Tres", "Cavalo Marinho", ... LP, Vinyl record album

Quarteto Em Cy

Resistindo Ao Vivo
Philips (Brazil), 1977. Very Good
Wonderful stuff from the lovely Quarteto Em Cy – but aren't they always wonderful? The record's got a spare stripped-down instrumental style, and was recorded live with bossa backing – so that the girls' voices are right out front, free and clear, doing the main work of the songs. Gal Costa

Profana
RCA (Brazil), 1984. Near Mint-
A warmly jazzy album from Gal Costa – much more so than you'd expect from her slightly creepy white face on the cover!
