An album cut later in the career of pianist Horace Parlan than his classic Blue Note sides – but a set that also marks his arrival as a key force on the European scene in the 70s – opening up a whole new chapter of his talents! In a way, this album may be the best of Horace's from the period – as it's got him working with a larger group, at a level that showcases some of his great talents for setting up horn players alongside his piano – an aspect of his work that didn't emerge on his more trio-heavy sides of later years. Only about half the tracks here feature a quintet, but these are totally great – with Idrees Sulieman on flugelhorn and Bent Jaedig on tenor, both bringing in some soul and color that really open up the tunes.
