I Get Hot

LP (Item 468078) Tempre, 1985 — Condition: Very Good+

Classic 80s indie soul from Levert – a group with a tremendous way of putting over a mellow groove! The album builds strongly off Levert's killer single "I'm Still" – and pushes the group into a great batch of quiet storm ballads and more uptempo jamming tracks – all done with a sensitivity that's deeper than most of their chart soul contemporaries, and which almost takes us back to the greatness of 70s indie soul. Part of the album was recorded at Sigma Sound, and Dexter Wansel helped a bit with production – on tracks that include "I'm Still", "Exciting Lady", "I Want Too", "I Get Hot", "Dancing With You", "All In The Way You Dance", "Melt", and "Jam".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(White label promo. Cover has some surface wear.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Average White Band

Soul Searching
Atlantic, 1976. Near Mint-
Sublime mid 70s work from The Average White Band – and a record that really has the group deepening their groove a bit – moving past the heavier funk of their roots, into some mellower grooves that are totally great! There's a great undercurrent of jazz in some of the playing here ... LP, Vinyl record album

Eastbound Expressway

Eastbound Expressway
AVI, 1979. Near Mint-
Classic work from female disco trio Eastbound Expressway – an Ian Levine project done in a mode to rival the great female club trios from Philly – and one that comes off surprisingly well! The work was recorded in UK, but has a style that reminds us a bit of some of the Canadian disco ... LP, Vinyl record album

Marvin Gaye

Anthology
Motown, 1960s/Early 70s. Near Mint- 3LP Gatefold
Killer 3LP set that brings together just about every single track you'd ever want from Marvin's early years at Motown! Tommy Boy, 1998. Near Mint- 2LP
Tommy Boy includes a little bit of everything on each volume of it's Greatest Beats series – from the early Soul Sonic Force classics and dance tracks up through the latest hits, but there's still a lot of hard-to-obtain 12" versions of Tommy Boy classics. This one includes Afrika ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sonny Stitt & Bunky Green

Soul In The Night (purple cover)
Cadet, 1966. Very Good+
A twin-alto session that matches the sax of Sonny Stitt with that of Bunky Green – both set up in a tight little combo that includes some smoking work on Hammond by organist Odell Brown! Brown's fierce approach to the keys creates a really gutbuckety sound on the set – making the album ... LP, Vinyl record album

Lew Tabackin & Shelley Manne

Trackin'
Direct Cutting (Japan), 1976. Near Mint-
One of the Direct Cutting audiophile recordings made during the 70's, pressed up on Japanese vinyl, and pressed so that it needs to be played at 45 rpm for maximum fidelity. Apart from that geeky sort of information, though, the set's a nice quartet session featuring Lew Tabackin on tenor and ... LP, Vinyl record album
Sire, 1978. Very Good+
Working class British punk at it's brash, dumb best. We'd be stretching it a bit to rate this album a classic, but it's definitely worth revisiting from time to time, and has stood up better than a lot of other late 70s rock. Includes "Tell Us The Truth", "Rip Off", "We ... LP, Vinyl record album

Cannonball Adderley Quintet

Happy People
Capitol, 1972. Very Good+

Love Sculpture

Forms & Feelings
Parrot, 1969. Near Mint-
Wonderful work from Love Sculpture – a heavy British trio from the end of the 60s – and one that features a young Dave Edmunds on guitar! There's a slight bluesy undercurrent in Dave's style, but the music also has that tightly compressed sound that would emerge more strongly during ... LP, Vinyl record album
