Ernie Kovacs Album

LP (Item 467864) Columbia, Early 60s/1976 — Condition: Very Good+
Also available
Ernie Kovacs — Ernie Kovacs Album (with bonus tracks) ... CD 14.99

An audio document of the genius of the Ernie Kovacs TV show of the early 60s – served up with almost as much dynamic energy as the show itself! Given the lack of visuals, the focus here is mostly on dialogue-heavy routines – so there's less of the wordless musical numbers that are often pointed to in examples of the show. But that approach makes the record a great one from a comedic perspective – and really gets at the sly, subtle sense of humor that would have made Kovacs a key talent in films and broadcasting for years to come – had his life not ended at a tragically young age. Includes some great Percy Dovetonsils segments, plus "Albert Gridley", "World's Strongest Man", "Tom Swift", "J Walter Puppybreath", "Strangely Believe It", "Pierre Ragout", and "Question Man".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

One of the strangest albums to come out of the late 60s spoken word record boom – a collection of Bob Dylan tunes, read with a heavy English accent by actor Sebastian Cabot! Great work from the classic days of the National Lampoon Radio Hour – a really wonderful show that ran on FM radio, and parodied many of the ideals and themes of the post-hippie generation!
