LP (Item 464792) King, 1950s — Condition: Near Mint-

A classic set of hard rockin R&B from Hank Ballard and the legendar Midnighters – as raw a batch of vocal group tracks you'd be hard pressed to find! The album features plenty of tunes from their "Annie" cycle of songs – including "Work With Me Annie", "Annie Had A Baby", "Annie's Aunt Fanny", and "Henry's Got Flat Feet" – plus gems that include "Sexy Ways", "Get It", "Finger Poppin' Time", "Let's Go, Let's Go, Let's Go", "Let's Go Again", "The Continental Walk", "The Switch-A-Roo", "The Float" and "Keep On Dancing".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Blue label King/Gusto pressing.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

James' moving tribute to the late Little Willie John – a big influence, and a fellow label mate at King. There are some great deep soul tracks on here, and lots of groovy instrumentals. Kay Robinson

We Need Time
King, Late 60s. Very Good-
Obscure bit of soulful gospel produced by James Brown for King. Kay Robinson's got a great voice, and the arrangements are similar to some of James' hard soul albums from the time. There's no breakbeat cuts here, but the music is quite strong, and given the strength of the arrangements, you'll ... LP, Vinyl record album

Breakin' Up The House
King/Charly (UK), Early 50s. Near Mint-
Nice stuff from one of our favorite R&B bandleaders of the 50s! These excellent tracks pop along with a tight rolling groove and a lively sense of rhythm that was often unmatched by some of the other sleepier groups of the time – and Bradshaw did a good job of recruiting some of the ... Sex Machine
King, 1970. Very Good 2LP Gatefold
James Brown cooking it live – recorded (as the cover says) "at home in Augusta, Georgia with his bad self"!
