7-inch (Item 463842) Hi Records, 1976 — Condition: Near Mint-
$2.99 ...

7-inch, Vinyl record

(€2.53 || £2.27 || ¥337) (approx.)

(In a Hi sleeve. Label has a small sticker.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Date, Late 60s. Very Good
The Steelers were one of the best Chicago soul groups of the late 60s – but they never really cut an album, and issued only a handful of great singles for different labels. This one's one of their best – and it features nice production by Al Smith and Calvin Carter of Vee Jay fame. ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

Polydor, 1978. Very Good-
A very extended groover from one of James' more club-oriented albums of the late 70s. The track actually manages to retain a good funk sound, even if the groove's a bit more uptempo than on earlier records – and the title chorus is a nice goofy one that's right up there with "Do Fries ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
Bell, Late 60s. Very Good
Two tunes by Al Green from his early pre-Hi Records years! "Let Me Help You" is a great little groover – socking soul power, swinging, with vocals that sound nothing at all like Al in later years, but still quite nice! "Guilty" is a sweet mellow number – a bit more ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
Hot Line, Late 60s. Very Good
A great little single from Al – recorded in the pre-Hi, pre-Willie Mitchell days, when he was working with the Soul Mates group, and working with an "e" on the end of his last name. "Back Up Train" has a nice punch in the ballad groove – very mellow, but also slyly ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

2 stone killers from Archie Bell & The Drells – both of them in that tight and outta site groovy mode that graced their best early work for Atlantic! There's not as much hard funk here as on "Tighten Up", but the sound is somehow even richer – a swinging party kind of ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
Horse/Love Is All Right
Phil-LA Of Soul, Late 60s. Very Good
A classic! "The Horse" is a great 60s instrumental groover that virtually set the tone for the next 10 years of brass instrumentation in soul music! The cut's got a raw TSU Tornadoes or Bar-Kays kind of feel, with a horn line right up front, in a catchy rolling groove that never quits! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Atlantic, 1976. Near Mint-
Two good mellow soul cuts from one of his great Atlantic albums. "Groovin" is a bit uptempo, but "You Turned Me On" is a great soul cut. 7-inch, Vinyl record
Mister Luckee/Ain't That Hateful
Satellite, Late 60s. Near Mint-
A fantastic single from Monk Higgins! "Mister Luckee" is a spare slow hard-grooving single – an organ/sax groover with a slow dance beat that's a bit like "Madison Time" (complete with calls), but pushed over the top by some wild instrumental soloing on organ, and by this ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
