Fabulous Eartha Kitt

LP (Item 46261) Kapp, Late 50s — Condition: Near Mint-
A batch of kitschy pop from Eartha Kitt. She is accompanied by Maurice Levine and his orchestra and the tracks include "Sholem", "Lamplight", "I'd Rather Be Burned As A Witch", "Independent", "Tierra Va Tembla", "Yellow Bird" and "Shango".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has light wear.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Eartha Kitt

Bad But Beautiful
MGM, 1962. Very Good+
A record that's sometimes overlooked in the career of the legendary Eartha Kitt – a set that came out on MGM in the early 60s, after Kitt's initial rise to fame on RCA, and before taking off for a long stretch overseas! The set hints at the sound of that era a bit – and arrangements by ... LP, Vinyl record album

Eartha Kitt

Thursday's Child
RCA, 1956. Very Good+
LP...$9.99 11.99
Henri Rene and his orchestra accompany Eartha on this record named after her 1956 autobiography. There is an tiny excerpt from her book on the back cover but the songs don't seem to necessarily reflect her life story. It's a nice collection of some relatively tame tunes in that throaty Earth Kitt ... LP, Vinyl record album

Hoagy Carmichael

Ole Buttermilk Sky
Kapp, 1958. Very Good+
(Maroon & silver label pressing with deep groove. Cover has light wear and a name in pen.) LP, Vinyl record album

Chris Connor

Chris Craft
Atlantic, 1958. Near Mint-
Chris' Craft is a great one here – beautifully simple and straightforward jazz vocals, served up at a level that few other singers can match! The album's one of our favorites from Connor's classic years with Atlantic – as it's got a mellow, moody approach that's filled with the darker ... LP, Vinyl record album

Nina Simone

Silk & Soul
RCA, 1967. Near Mint-
One of Nina's first for RCA – a mixture of jazz and soul tunes handled with some classy arrangements by Sammy Lowe, most of which feature nice electric bass work at the bottom by Gene Taylor! Taylor's bass gives the tracks a nice "dip" that's not exactly funky, but does provide a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jackie & Roy

Time & Love
CTI, 1972. Near Mint- Gatefold
An excellent 70s set by Jackie & Roy – very different than their work of the 50s and 60s, with an approach that's much more far-reaching and complicated – a style that opens up their vocal talents majestically! Gone are the simpler ditties of earlier years, and in their place are ... LP, Vinyl record album

Peggy Lee

Mirrors
A&M, 1975. Near Mint- Gatefold
An incredible album from Peggy Lee – baroquely beautiful, in a way that builds massively off of her "Is That All There Is Period" – and take her into territory that's almost equal to Lotte Lenya! The whole album was written by the team of Lieber & Stoller, in a sad, boozy ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ann Margret

And Here She Is
RCA, 1961. Near Mint-
Marty Paich brings some nice jazzy charts to this early set from Ann-Margret – just the kind of hip material that made her a swinger from the start! The vocals have a sexy, breathy quality that matches Ann's tight sweater on the cover – and even when Paich grooves in an uptempo style, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sandpipers

Wonder Of You
A&M, 1969. Near Mint- Gatefold
A record that has the Sandpipers moving even deeper into the heady brew of A&M at the end of the 60s – that unusual, yet always-perfect blend of sounds that the label, and these guys, seemed to do better than anyone else! Tracks are a mix of Brazilian, soundtrack, and sweet easy numbers ... LP, Vinyl record album

Abbey Lincoln

Talking To The Sun
Enja (Germany), 1983. Near Mint-
Something of a comeback set for Abbey Lincoln – an extremely powerful set from the early 80s, and one that helped set the tone for some great albums to come! Abbey's working here in a bold style that includes a fair bit of original material – done in collaboration with alto saxophonist ... LP, Vinyl record album

Lorez Alexandria

Dear To My Heart
Trend, 1987. Near Mint-
An obscure 80s session from the great Lorez Alexandria – and a record that beautifully shows how alive her style was in these later years! The album was recorded with full group backings from the band of saxophonist Gordon Brisker – in a style that's slightly fuller than some of her ... LP, Vinyl record album
