Yes Indeed! (original cover)

LP (Item 46187) Atlantic, 1958 — Condition: Very Good+

Yes indeed – a mighty early classic from the great Ray Charles – one of his first full length albums, and a set that brings together the searing sort of work he was doing for Atlantic Records in the 50s! Ray's completely confident and at the top of his game here – and a lot more raw than if you only know him from his later country-tinged material. Tracks include "What Would I Do Without You", "It's All Right", "Get On The Right Track", "Blackjack", "I Want A Little Girl", and "Heartbreaker".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Red & purple label pressing, with Atlantic inner sleeve. Cover has a bumped corner.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Ray Charles

Genius Of Ray Charles
Atlantic, 1959. Near Mint-
Later Atlantic Records material from the legendary Ray Charles – a set that definitely lives up to the genius of the title, in that it shows a real sense of development in Ray's music! Charles has moved from the shorter R&B of his early Atlantic singles, to embrace some greater jazz-based ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sweet & Sour Tears
ABC, 1964. Very Good+
Easily one of the best Ray Charles albums on ABC – if not one of the best Ray Charles albums of all-time. Ray's in his C&W mode here, but it's a bit more restrained than on other LPs, and is replaced here by a sophisticated style that works perfectly with his heartbreaking voice. Proof ... Wild eyed organ soul from Mandala – a mix of raw and heavy R&B and fuzzed out garagey sounds from the Toronto combo – bringing their legendary approach to fiery performance to this lone rare studio set pretty well! There's plenty of lovin here, but even more dancin too – thanks to production and arrangements from disco maestro Michael Zager!
