❔

This collection features some of their bigger hits like the great "Peaches 'N Cream" plus some tracks that were moving into the 70s funk sound like the Doobie Brothers' "Listen To The Music". Overall, it's a nice collection that features them in a variety of modes. Other titles are "Someday We'll Be Together", "I Gotcha", "Come See About Me", "Camel Walk", "I'm So Thankful", and "I'm Blue". Ike & Tina produced the album.  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Sealed. Cover has a cutout hole.)

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

United Artists, 1972. Very Good
A monster from start to finish – not only the greatest album from War, but maybe one of the greatest mainstream funk albums of all time! Brass Construction

Brass Construction III
United Artists, 1977. Very Good-
Another killer from Brass Construction – served up in that fantastic Randy Muller groove! The group's a bit one, but they've got a tightness that's really incredible – horns, bass, keys, and drums all focused together perfectly – hitting a pulsating rhythmic line that's perfect ... United Artists, Late 60s/Early 70s. Very Good
Bobby's so great, it's hard to fit all of his good stuff on one LP – but this set does a pretty darn good job, and includes 12 tracks from his legendary years on United Artists! Hearing this set, we're stunned to realize just how many great tracks Bobby turned out over the years – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Dutch Robinson

Nothin's Got Me
United Artists, 1977. Very Good+
A nice bit of late 70s southern soul from singer Dutch Robinson – best known for his early work with the Ohio Players! Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose

Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose
United Artists, 1972. Very Good+
A wonderful album from this enigmatic soul group! Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose were one of a handful of early 70s groups – like Chairmen Of The Board or 100 Proof Aged In Soul – who had a sound that was incredibly hard to peg. There were bits of southern rawness in the vocals, ... LP, Vinyl record album
United Artists, 1975. Very Good
A huge moment for War – maybe the group's biggest album of the 70s, but a set that still has them holding onto everything that makes the great! Like Earth Wind & Fire at their best, War have this way of staying strong and righteous, while still able to hit a hook – jamming one ... LP, Vinyl record album

Kenny Brawner & Raw Sugar

Kenny Brawner & Raw Sugar
United Artists, 1978. Near Mint-
Obscure batch of funky tracks, produced by Horace Ott, and released on the Pyramid subsidiary of United Artists. The tracks have sort of a late 70s well-produced funk feel, with lots of bass, and ensemble playing. Tracks include "Vibes", "Goin Home", "Stay Up", " ... LP, Vinyl record album

Lea Roberts

Lady Lea
United Artists, 1975. Very Good+
A mixture of smooth LA soul with some deeper tendencies – Lea's second album for United Artists, and very much in the spirit of the first. Titles include "She Will Break Your Heart", "Lost In Your Love", "Chained To This Memory", "You're Gonna Need A ... LP, Vinyl record album

War

War
United Artists, 1971. Very Good Gatefold
A wonderful first solo album from War – a set that has them breaking away from their early partnership with singer Eric Burdon – and finding an even better groove in the process! The vibe here is hipper, and even more righteous than before – some of those great jazz currents on ... LP, Vinyl record album

Walter Jackson

Good To See You
Chi Sound/United Artists, 1978. Near Mint-
Sophisticated soul from the great Walter Jackson – one of the best voices ever to come out of the Chicago soul scene, and a wonderful interpreter of just about any material! Tyrone Davis

In The Mood
Columbia, 1979. Very Good
Our favorite album ever from Tyrone Davis – even if it's completely different than most of his other work too! The set's got a wonderfully smooth feel right from the start – a mellow-grooving, slow-stepping approach that works perfectly for Tyrone's wonderful vocals – pushing ... LP, Vinyl record album

9th Creation

Superheroes
Hilltak, 1979. Very Good
Fantastic funk from 9th Creation – a group who really tighten up their sound for this record, but still stay as wonderful as before! There's a totally right-on-the-money vibe to the whole thing – like the best Wayne Henderson/At Home productions from the late 70s – or maybe that ... LP, Vinyl record album
