Very Good - (minus)
Vinyl may be dirty, and can lack a fair amount of luster.
Vinyl can have a number of marks, either in clusters or smaller amounts, but deeper.
This is the kind of record that you'd buy to play,
but not because it looked that great. Still, the flaws should be mostly cosmetic,
with nothing too deep that would ruin the overall record.
Examples include a record that has been kept for a while in a
cover without the paper sleeve, or heavily played by a previous owner
and has some marks across the surface. The record should play okay,
though probably with surface noise.
Additional Marks & Notes
If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially
if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record.
This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
Two northern soul killers form The Capitols! "We Got A Thing" is a shameless follow-up to "Cool Jerk" – but we don't care, because the cut grooves great, and has some really wonderful drums at the beginning. "Tired" begins with some great drums, too – but ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
Killer funk! "Action Speaks Louder Than Words" is a great lost 70's funk track, with a slow loping groove, and a tight choppy hook that just crawls along nicely! One of the best cuts ever by this New Orleans band – and always a treat! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Barbara Jean English was one of the more diverse singers on the east coast scene of the 70s – and this single is proof of her range. "Breakin Up" is an uptempo track with kind of a polished club feel – but we like "Guess Who?" a lot better, as it's a great sweet ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
Fantastic funk from Nat! "Calling Out Loud" has these stepping bass and electric piano parts that are just great, with wailing flute that bursts out into a full trumpet solo from Nat – really tasty, and stretching for the funky clouds! "Biafra Haifa" is more moody and ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
"Piece Of My Heart" is a killer – Erma's lasting hit, a sublime deep soul number with a catchy chorus that was covered by many, and done here in a version that blows Aretha away any time! "Baby" is possibly even better – chuggingly funky with a really snapping ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
One of the first really breakout funky numbers from Prince – an anthemic groover that was also the title cut to his album of the same name! "Controversy" never sounded so good – with popping bass and sweetly gliding keys that emphasize the grooves! 7-inch, Vinyl record
An unusual version of the Jackson 5's third album – one pressed up by Motown for the "Little LP Unlimited" company – still with a Motown inner label, and featuring 6 songs from the full LP, in a red-tinted picture sleeve. Titles include the groovy "Goin Back To ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
2 nice ones from The Counts' earliest years on Aware! "Too Bad" is a vocal number that rolls and vamps with some weird jazzy changes – almost Latiny at times, as horns inflect a strange edge around the raspy vocals in the lead – and conga rolls along to push the bottom. ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
A jammer from the Rhythm Makers – one of the hippest dancefloor combos of their day! "Prime Cut" is a blinding mix of keys, bass, and these snapping drums that come into the tune about 1/3 of the way in – a really tight groover in the best Kay Gees mode! 7-inch, Vinyl record
