Pops, We Love You

LP (Item 459192) Motown, 1979 — Condition: Near Mint-

A unique Motown project from the end of the 70s – an album recorded in tribute to Berry Gordy, Sr – father of Motown owner Berry, Jr – and a key force in the development of the warm spirit and family-like climate at the label. The set's an all-star affair, with contributions from some of the label's biggest stars at the time – a number of whom appear here in exclusive tracks. The set features a remixed version of "God Is Love" by Marvin Gaye, plus "Mother's Son" by Smokey Robinson, "Reach Out & Touch" by Diana Ross, "This Is Your Live" by The Commodores, "You'll Never Rock Alone" by Jermaine Jackson & Tata Vega, "I'll Keep A Light In My Window" by Marvin Gaye & Diana Ross, "Come In Heaven" by Tata Vega, and the title cut "Pops We Love You", in 2 versions, by the team of Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, and Smokey Robinson.  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has a promo stamp, light wear, and some small stains.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Fully Exposed
Motown, 1973. Near Mint-
Super-dope work from Willie – a great selection of laidback and electric grooves, done here with plenty of great work on hollow-body electric guitar, which adds a nice raspiness to the instrumentation, and creates the same sort of vibe you'd hear on Willie's best soundtrack work. A landmark record for Diana – her first solo effort after leaving the Supremes, and a well-conceived batch of tracks produced by Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson! Motown, 1979. Sealed 4 x 12" Box Set
A great little package of clubby soul from Motown – four 12" singles in a box! The Four Tops weren't the first of the Motown groups to get the broadway treatment, but they do a pretty nice job with it!
