Promise

LP (Item 45508) Portrait, 1985 — Condition: Very Good-

Sade's second album, and while it's not totally sublime as the first, it's still a damn great set with a smooth jazzy vibe that will have you coming back again and again! Includes the lovely "The Sweetest Taboo", plus "Is It A Crime", "War Of The Hearts", "Mr Wrong", and "Never As Good As The First Time". (Non-gatefold pressing in original shrinkwrap with hype sticker, including the printed inner sleeve, with a small name in pen.)  © 1996-2018, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good - (minus)

  • Vinyl may be dirty, and can lack a fair amount of luster.
  • Vinyl can have a number of marks, either in clusters or smaller amounts, but deeper.
  • This is the kind of record that you'd buy to play, but not because it looked that great. Still, the flaws should be mostly cosmetic, with nothing too deep that would ruin the overall record.
  • Examples include a record that has been kept for a while in a cover without the paper sleeve, or heavily played by a previous owner and has some marks across the surface. The record should play okay, though probably with surface noise.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

At Last
Blue Thumb, Early 70s. Very Good+
Probably the rarest of all albums by the Last Poets – so rare that it often doesn't show up in lists of their work, and that it's never reissued with the frequency of their other early titles. Jalal is firmly in place by this point, and his hip rhyming poetry has brought a new level of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Great work from The Ravens with Jimmy Ricks – listed here as Ricky! The album includes the tracks "I'm Gonna Paper My Walls With Your Love Letters", "Summertime", "Searching For Love", "Mazel Means Good Luck", and "Write Me A Letter". LP, Vinyl record album
Unlimited Gold, 1978. Near Mint-
A lost treasure from Barry White – the one and only album recorded by Danny Pearson, one of the few singers that Barry did as "special projects" during the 70s! Like Gloria Scott and Tom Brock – two other White-produced singers of the time – Pearson's got a wonderful ... LP, Vinyl record album
Blue Note, 1975. Near Mint-
The best of two self-titled albums by this hip LA vocal quartet – recorded for Blue Note with arrangements by Jerry Peters, and jazzy soul style that reminds us a bit of Creative Source on their third or forth LPs. The group were heavily in demand as backup singers on studio sessions – ... LP, Vinyl record album
Marvin Gaye & His Girls
Tamla, 1969. Very Good+
A classic batch of Motown duets from Marvin Gaye and some of his best female co-stars – with a few contributions a piece from Mary Wells, Kim Weston, and Tammi Terrell! Although other artists explored the male/female duet mode back in the 60s, few did it as well as Marvin – thanks in ... LP, Vinyl record album

Volt, 1968. Good+
A very important crossover soul album – a huge hit for Otis Redding that was released after his tragic death in December 1967 – but it's also hard to say if it would have had the impact it did had Redding not passed while the LP was still in production. Milestone, 1967. Near Mint-
A key link between Joe Henderson's earlier years at Blue Note and his later, freer work for Milestone – recorded in a style that's got plenty of Blue Note hardbop touches, yet also done with a sense of freedom that you'd never expect from that label! Joe's grooving in a straight, yet angular ... LP, Vinyl record album
Mellow Gravy
Prestige, Mid 60s. Very Good+
Mellow gravy is right! Brother Jack swings it nice and cool with help from Joe Dukes, Gene Ammons, and Harold Vick – using his patented two-tenor sound for a very full-on groove that makes this one of the best of his early 60s Prestige sessions. The tracks are all around the 5 to 7 minute ... LP, Vinyl record album
