Voices All

LP (Item 45469) East World (Japan), 1982 — Condition: Near Mint-
A great Japanese session by the legendary Jazztet – with Art Farmer on flugelhorn, Benny Golson on tenor sax, Curtis Fuller on trombone, Cedar Walton on piano, Buster Williams on bass and Albert Heath on drums. The recording was made in 1982 in Tokyo and it was produced by Kiyoshi Ito. The tracks are all Benny Golson originals except for Art Farmer's "Mox Nix". The Golson tunes are "Whisper Not", "Voices All", "Killer Joe", "I Remember Clifford", "Evermore", and "Park Avenue Petite".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Cal Tjader

Best Of Cal Tjader
Verve, Mid 60s. Near Mint- Gatefold
Cal cut so many great sides for Verve during the 60s, it's hard to imagine how anyone could come up with a "best of" – but this album fits the bill nicely, and includes a number of solid groover and Latin jazz tracks that fit just right! Includes "Sake & Greens", ... LP, Vinyl record album

Johnny Hammond Smith

What's Going On
Prestige, 1971. Very Good+
One of the most obscure Johnny Hammond records of the 70s – and a key transitional set between his 60s soul jazz years and the funky jazz he would soon record for Kudu Records with Bob James! Johnny's still handling the organ here, and he works in a great group that also includes the young ... LP, Vinyl record album

This Is Jeremy Steig
Solid State, 1967. Near Mint- Gatefold
Pure greatness from Jeremy Steig – an album of funky flute tracks that really opened up whole new possibilities for the instrument! Lennie Tristano

Lennie Tristano
Atlantic, 1955. Very Good+
Darkly imaginative work from the great Lennie Tristano – and one of the few full albums he ever cut as a leader! Archie Shepp

Live In San Francisco
Impulse, 1966. Near Mint- Gatefold
A great counterpart to some of Archie Shepp's studio albums for Impulse – a live date recorded in San Francisco, with a slightly freer, sharper edge! The sound is almost free at times, but always with that strong sense of focus that Archie brought to his brilliant work of the time – ... LP, Vinyl record album
Flying Dutchman, 1971. Near Mint- Gatefold
One of the more modernist efforts by Oliver Nelson, and proof that he could write and play with a shockingly sharp edge, despite all of the mainstream arrangements he was doing at the time. Cannonball Adderley

Mercy, Mercy, Mercy!
Capitol, 1966. Near Mint-
If the 60's ever had a "hit" jazz record, it was probably this one! The album's a sparkling live session featuring the trademark soul jazz sounds of the Cannonball Adderley group with Joe Zawinul on acoustic and electric piano, and brother Nat Adderley on cornet. The tracks have a long ... LP, Vinyl record album
Verve, Mid 50s. Very Good
An incredibly haunting session that has Stan's edgey alto fronting some of Russ Garcia's arch-modernist string arrangements – similar to those that he contributed to other Verve albums of the same style. Getz maintains a wonderfully breathy tone that floats above the orchestrations, and the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Modern Jazz Quartet

Music From Odds Against Tomorrow
United Artists, 1959. Near Mint- Gatefold
A brilliant album through and through – not just a standout from the late 50s years of the Modern Jazz Quartet, but also a compelling soundtrack composed entirely by pianist John Lewis!
