Phase II

LP (Item 45422) Mercury, 1977 — Condition: Near Mint-

Sweet disco work from the great Hamilton Bohannon! The title includes one mellower number – "Daddy's Little Son" – a dedication to his son, whose picture is on the cover of the album – plus the groovers "Andrea", "But What Is A Dream", "Bohannon's Disco Symphony", "Isn't It A Beautiful Morning", "Just Doing My Thang", and "Moving Fast". The set also features work from some of Bohannon's original band members – Ray Parker Jr and Melvin Wah Wah Ragin on guitars!  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Mercury, 1977. Sealed
Not as strong as Coke's earlier work on Mercury – but not a bad album overall, thanks to some tight production work by Pat Gleeson, who's also most likely playing the cool keyboards on the record. Most of the tunes are aimed at the dancefloor – not really disco numbers, but the sort of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Spacey Euro disco, released in the US by Mercury. The vocals are no standout, but the oddball science fiction theme from the cover carries over a bit into the production with some cool electronics that have a speeded up Kraftwerk sound. Amazing soul from one of the greats of the 60s! This album was one of the first that Jerry cut for Mercury – where he'd begun working with the young team of Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff to completely rework the earlier sound he'd forged at Vee Jay Records. The album's still got Jerry singing ... LP, Vinyl record album

A modern soul gem produced by Lenny White! Though White lends a touch of jazzy sophistication to the set, it's a straight up dose of mainstream modern soul, with great ensemble vocals and crisp production over tight songs that should have landed Wax at the top of the radio.
