LP, Vinyl record album

Perhaps the most heavenly of all the Chi-Lites albums, with soaring harmonies leaping all over beautiful Chicago soul production, and loads of great heartbreaking stories unfolding as the whole thing spins away! A true masterpiece from the Chicago scene – and filled with loads of wonderful moments that almost seem to be the group's answer to some of the growing wave of harmony soul coming from the east coast at the time. Includes the excellent title track, plus "Just Two Teenage Kids", "Too Late To Turn Back Now", "Someone Else's Arms", "You Smiled The Same Old Way", "My Heart Just Keeps On Breakin'", and "Love Comes In All Sizes". Nice cover, too, with a skyline shot of Chicago around the same time that Bob Newhart was working there as a shrink!  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Me & You
Chi Sound, 1981. Very Good+
Chi-Lites going strong into the 80s – hitting a whole new groove, but keeping things real in the vocal department! The album's got a great mix of ballads and groovers – similar to other Chi-Sound productions at the time – and the upbeat numbers follow nicely from the group's work ... LP, Vinyl record album
Half A Love
Brunswick, 1975. Very Good
Nothing half about The Chi-Lites at all – as the group were always tremendous during their famous run at Brunswick Records – able to come across perfectly on mellow ballads and more upbeat numbers! This set is a wonderful illustration of the really unique Chicago-based approach that ... LP, Vinyl record album
All Things In Time
Philadelphia International, 1976. Sealed
A killer – and one of our favorite Philly International albums ever! This is the album that broke Lou Rawls back into the mainstream for the smooth 70s – retuning his incredible voice with waves of soul and strings in the Gamble & Huff tradition – and giving him a whole new ... Chi-Lites
Brunswick, 1972. Very Good+
One of our favorite albums ever from the legendary Chi-Lites – and a set that's sometimes passed over, because it didn't have a formal title or colorful cover! The self-titled set is a killer all the way through – filled with the kind of sublime harmonies that made the group easily one ... LP, Vinyl record album
Energizer
Brunswick, 1975. Very Good
Wonderfully tight grooves from Touch – a group who step out here with their debut album, but who had been playing for years on a variety of other studio work! The core combo is wonderful – lots of choppy guitar over the tight bass and drums – and vocals that often have more than ... LP, Vinyl record album

Soulful Strut
Brunswick, Late 60s. Very Good
A funky soul instrumental classic – all the way through! The team of Eldee Young and Redd Holt first came to prominence with Ramsey Lewis' first Chicago trio, then branched out on their own as a jazz act – but by the time of this set, they'd picked up a hipper, funkier late 60s sort of ... Concert In Blues
Motown, 1976. Sealed
No blues at all – just some great funky soul from the mighty Willie Hutch – served up here on one of his classic full length sets for Motown in the 70s! The vibe's kind of an extension of Willie's great blacksploitation soundtrack material from a few years before – lots of bad-str ... LP, Vinyl record album
I'm In Love With You
Westbound, 1973. Very Good
Maybe our favorite album by this Detroit soul group on Westbound. Why? Well maybe it's because of the great lime-green suits they're wearing on the cover, but probably because they've really got their act together on this one, and lay down a tight set of soul cuts, that have all the great ... Rockin' Roll Baby
Avco, 1973. Very Good
The third album by The Stylistics – and a set that's still very much in the high-harmony territory of their first two classics! Thom Bell's still very firmly on deck this time around – arranging, producing, and writing a good deal of the material too – and the Sigma Sound ... LP, Vinyl record album
Time Moves On
Brunswick, 1975. Very Good+
Part funk, part disco, and all the way soul – served up in this one and only album from Strutt! The group were an obscure New Jersey combo from the 70s, but they step out beautifully on this rare Brunswick album – which has the same sort of funk club groove you'd find on a few of the ... Twinight, Early 70s. Very Good+
One of the best-ever soul albums to come out of Chicago – and it may well be one of the best soul albums ever! The set's the deepest that Syl Johnson ever recorded – and it takes all the hard, raw soul he forged on previous funky 45s – and spins it out in longer album format ... LP, Vinyl record album
