We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Who Me? I'm Not Him
Laff, 1977. Very Good+
Excellent work from Richard Pryor's early years – a record done in the usual "party" style of the Laff label, but with a freewheeling and hip approach to the material that finds its humor in far more than just blue topics and sexual double-entendres! Pryor is frenetic and energetic ... LP, Vinyl record album

Pryor's really hit his stride here, and made the transition to the mainstream, though he's still a darn funny motherf*#ker. Skits include "Shortage Of White People", "New N*ggers", "Cocaine", "Mudbone", "When Your Woman Leaves You" and "Our ... LP, Vinyl record album
That N*gger's Crazy
Warner/Partee, 1974. Good+

N*gger Please!
Laff, Mid 70s. Very Good+
The cover bills this one as "The Funky Tramp, clean-n-up, but stay-n-funky" – but to our ears, the record's as raw and raunchy as any other Jimmy Lynch classic from the time! The set's a masterpiece in the party record vein – Jimmy's badass raps and off-color jokes, supported ... LP, Vinyl record album
Big Dead Dick
Laff, Early 70s. Very Good
A 70s classic from the team of Skillet & Leroy – bold, bawdy, and riotous party work right from the start! Some of the numbers are kind of an update of the older "open the door Richard" mode – with the pair trading roles over skits in different settings – but the ... LP, Vinyl record album
