Exciting Voodoo!

LP (Item 45230) Palace, Early 60s — Condition: Very Good-

Jean De Vres presents this collection of drum songs that use the traditional drums of Haiti. The songs are meant to invoke the happy gods of voodoo rather than the dark, black magic gods outsiders normally associate with voodoo. Tracks include "Ao-Mao", "Fire Dance", "Drum Festival", "Dolcini", "Voodoo Spirit Song", "Rhythm Of The Forest", and "Voo-Voo".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Stereo pressing with deep groove. )

Very Good - (minus)

  • Vinyl may be dirty, and can lack a fair amount of luster.
  • Vinyl can have a number of marks, either in clusters or smaller amounts, but deeper.
  • This is the kind of record that you'd buy to play, but not because it looked that great. Still, the flaws should be mostly cosmetic, with nothing too deep that would ruin the overall record.
  • Examples include a record that has been kept for a while in a cover without the paper sleeve, or heavily played by a previous owner and has some marks across the surface. The record should play okay, though probably with surface noise.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Alan Lorber Orchestra

Lotus Palace
Verve, Late 60s. Very Good- Gatefold
A groundbreaking record that was done as something of a gimmick in the late 60s – but which has gone on to be a funky world classic over the years! Producer Alan Lorber was trying to cash in on the big love of "Eastern" styles in the late 60s – sitars, meditation, yoga, and ... LP, Vinyl record album

They Said It Couldn't Be Done
Capitol, Early 60s. Near Mint-
Goofy accordion pop stuff, with a cover that has a gorilla holding the accordion and playing it in a number of different positions. We're assuming that the chimp doesn't play on the record, mostly because the playing's pretty skillful and peppy, especially on tracks like "Holiday for ... LP, Vinyl record album

Celestial Harmonies, 1981. Near Mint-
Tibetan bells – what else did you expect? Played by a couple of phonies, but still with a nice sound that's very good if you want to turn on and drop out. Titles include "Journey To End", "Skybells II", and "Astral Plane". Get celestial, baby! LP, Vinyl record album

Capitol, Late 50s. Very Good
Dreamy work from Les Baxter – featuring his chorus and orchestra over string-heavy arrangements that match the midnight sea setting on the cover. Everest, 1958. Near Mint-
An odd one for Raymond Scott – and a sweet one, too! First, this "rock n roll symphony" isn't really rock, so much as it is a set of standards and 50s pop instrumentals – mostly non-rock – all performed in a mellow easy style. Second, even though Scott's at the head of ... LP, Vinyl record album

A great little early album from Miriam Makeba – featuring trumpet and arrangements by Hugh Masekela, with backings by a small combo that give her a nice South African groove.
