Dizzy At Home & Abroad

LP (Item 45217) Atlantic, Early 50s — Condition: Very Good-

A really obscure album for Diz – making a rare appearance here on Atlantic Records! The LP compiles tracks that had previously appeared on 2 10" LPs for Atlantic – and one set of tracks was recorded in New York ("at home"), while the others were cut in Paris ("abroad"). Tracks are short, and in a very playful boppish mode – typical of the populist Diz of the early 50s, of whom we have no complaints! Titles include "Just Blues", "Groovin The Nursery Rhymes", "Blues Chante", "Cognac Blues", "Lullaby In Rhythm", and "Mrs Diz".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Black label pressing with deep groove. Cover has some wear and aging.)

Very Good - (minus)

  • Vinyl may be dirty, and can lack a fair amount of luster.
  • Vinyl can have a number of marks, either in clusters or smaller amounts, but deeper.
  • This is the kind of record that you'd buy to play, but not because it looked that great. Still, the flaws should be mostly cosmetic, with nothing too deep that would ruin the overall record.
  • Examples include a record that has been kept for a while in a cover without the paper sleeve, or heavily played by a previous owner and has some marks across the surface. The record should play okay, though probably with surface noise.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Verve, 1959. Very Good+
Diz breaks past his bop playing, takes a bit of a turn towards swing-based material, and also hits this nice rolling groove that gives a bit of a peek at the way he'd sound in the 60's, when he had Lalo Schifrin on piano, and more of a Latin sound. He's backed here by Junior Mance on piano, Les ... LP, Vinyl record album

This might well be the best album that Les McCann ever cut during the 70s!
