Sublime sounds from Dionne Warwick – a classic Scepter Records set produced by Burt Bacharach, who also wrote a good number of the tunes too! Arrangements are by a few different top-shelf studio talents – Don Sebesky, Peter Matz, and Bacharach himself – all in that breathy gentle ... LP, Vinyl record album
Not really the soundtrack for the movie – but a sweet batch of tracks that feature the lovely Dionne Warwick singing the title tune – and stretching out on a host of other great 60s numbers too! The album was recorded in two different sessions, mostly with backings by Burt Bacharach ... LP, Vinyl record album
The monumental debut of BT Express – and an excellent funk album that often gets overlooked by fans of the music because of the band's bigger fame as a disco group! This first record has the combo grooving hard and instrumentally – in the mode of a tight blacksploitation soundtrack, ... LP, Vinyl record album
Classic Philly soul from Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes – a killer batch of studio tracks, despite the live image of the group on the cover! The album's got a slightly more expansive feel than some of the other Teddy Pendergrass-era albums by The Blue Notes – almost a mini-symphony ... LP, Vinyl record album
A strange one by Otis Williams – the former leader of The Charms, a relatively big vocal group on King during the 50s. Supposedly, Williams always wanted to sing country music – a natural choice at King, given that the label worked in both C&W and R&B during the 50s – but ... LP, Vinyl record album
Anacostia make the move to Tabu Records for this sweet second set – and they seem to have picked up more of a groove along the way! The same elements as before are firmly in place here – production by Charles Kipps, with supervision from Van McCoy – but the groove is a bit more ... LP, Vinyl record album
A great one from The Shirelles – the kind of album that goes way past the obvious, and really shows the quartet as a heck of a great soul group overall! If you've ever only thought of The Shirelles as simple girl group pop, this is the record to get you past that easy expectation – and ... LP, Vinyl record album
Spiritual, soulful, and oh, so beautiful! This record captures Earth Wind & Fire at a perfect transition moment – when they've still got some of their avant jazz roots, but are leaning towards the smooth soulful funk sound that put them on the charts a few years later. The whole thing's ... LP, Vinyl record album
Incredible work by Willie Bobo – a slamming record of hard funky instrumentals, one that sounds different than any of his other albums! The record's a killer all the way through – a mixture of Latin and deep 70s funk, one of the few perfect fusions of the styles, held up beautifully ... LP, Vinyl record album
One of the most compelling later albums on Philly International – a killer mix of jazzy numbers that have a very different style than most of the other Philly work at the time! Even though Leon Huff had been banging around in soul music for about 15 years – most famously as half of the ... LP, Vinyl record album
One of the two early Earth Wind & Fire LPs recorded for Warner – and the one that shows their amazing roots in the avant-garde jazz scene in Chicago. At the forefront, the record's a righteous soul album with an ensemble funk sound – but deeper in, there's a lot of jazz-based ... LP, Vinyl record album
