Do Me Again

LP (Item 448752) Capitol/Orpheus, 1990 — Condition: Near Mint-
Freddie Jackson in full effect – stepping out in a set of smooth, mellow, and midtempo numbers – all very much in that 80s male soul sound he helped forge in the first years of his career – still very much in place at the time of this set! The record's not one to rewrite the pages of soul music history, but it is a great example of that solid, in the pocket approach that still worked well at this point in time – a sound that was certainly pop-oriented, but also not as excessive as some of Jackson's contemporaries. Production is full and rich, but Freddie's vocals still get plenty of chance to flow out in the mix, even when beats are strong – and titles include "Don't Say You Love Me", "Do Me Again", "Live For The Moment", "Second Time For Love", "I'll Be Waiting For You", "Main Course", "It Takes To", and "Don't It Feel Good".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has bumped corners.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Tavares

Best Of Tavares
Capitol, Mid 70s. Very Good+
One of Capitol's biggest soul bands of the 70s – and a strong sweet group who made the shift from mellow soul to the disco years. The set kicks off with the band's massive "Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel", but we prefer their mellower stuff – like their sublime version of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Lou Rawls

Carryin' On!
Capitol, Late 60s. Very Good+
One of Lou's excellent Capitol sessions produced by David Axelrod! The record's not an outwardly funky one, but Axe gives the set a nice loping groove on the best tracks – the sound that he brought to his best work with Rawls, and which really put him over the top back in the 60s. Titles ... LP, Vinyl record album

Tavares

Sky High
Capitol, 1976. Near Mint-
A stone 70s classic from Tavares – quite possibly the group's biggest album, and a masterpiece of LA vocal group soul! The album's biggest claim to fame is the massive hit "Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel", recorded by the group for this set, but blown to the heights through it's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Persuasions

We Came To Play
Capitol, Mid 70s. Near Mint-
A beautiful group soul vocals effort from the Persuasions in the early 70s – working in a throwback acapella mode, but still with a fresh feel – thanks to a hip dawn of the 70s sound, and a stripped-down feel that you'd probably have never gotten back in the day! It's amazing how fresh ... LP, Vinyl record album

Lou Rawls

Feelin' Good
Capitol, Late 60s. Very Good+
One of Lou Rawls' best for Capitol – produced by David Axelrod, and arranged by HB Barnum with a joyous, leaping, sock-soulful groove! The drums get nice and hard on the set – especially on the classic break version of "For What It's Worth", and the rolling righteous cut ... LP, Vinyl record album

Tavares

Love Storm
Capitol, 1977. Very Good+ Gatefold
A definite love storm from Tavares – a set that has the group's vocal approach honed to perfection – really soaring high with some sweet clubby arrangements from Freddie Perren! The album came at a time when the group was riding high on mainstream disco fame – but it's hardly a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Tavares

Love Uprising
Capitol, 1980. Near Mint-
Always-great work from Tavares – one of those groups who never seemed to miss, and who seemed to weather the disco era a lot better than most of their contemporaries! This 1980 album is key proof of that fact – a tremendous little set, done at a point when Tavares could have rested on ... LP, Vinyl record album

Curtis Knight/Jimi Hendrix

Get That Feeling
Capitol, Mid 60s. Very Good+
One of the many chapters of Jimi's career before his famous Experience recordings – a set of hard rocking soul tracks with singer Curtis Knight, recorded in a really lively sort of party feel! The quality of the set almost makes us think this one was a live session – especially on the ... LP, Vinyl record album
