Spirit Of Christmas

LP (Item 447816) Columbia, 1985 — Condition: Very Good+
A great holiday album from Ray Charles – recorded in the 80s, but with a sound that's pretty classic all the way through! Ray's vocals are excellent – with that raspy intimate quality that persists all through his later years – and the sweetly jazzy arrangements work perfectly with the voice to bring new life to old classics like "What Child Is This", "Little Drummer Boy", "Winter Wonderland", and "Santa Claus Is Comin To Town". There's also a few nice obscurer numbers – like the country soul "That Spirit Of Christmas", plus "All I Want For Christmas" and "Christmas In My Heart", which both feature Ray on electric piano.  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Al's first major label record – cut when he was an emerging soul jazz vocalist, but before he'd gone totally over the top in super-slick hit mode. Freddie sings it nice and easy with his deep round baritone, amidst polished arrangements by Garry Sherman, and nice production by Clyde Otis.
