Get In Touch

LP (Item 44767) RCA, 1979 — Condition: Used
Temporarily Out Of Stock

LP

Harmony soul, retooled for the discos – as most of the tracks on this self-produced set feature strident grooves that must have been aimed at the clubs. The sound's pretty good overall, though, thanks to some great vocals. Luther Vandross is listed in the vocal credits – although we don't have any idea how much of the singing he actually participated in – and there's definitely a Luther-like approach to the best tracks. Titles include "Move On Up", "Take A Chance, Dance", "Get In Touch", "Celebrate", "Children Of The Discos", and "Just Because I'm Yours". (Cover has light wear.)  © 1996-2016, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

RCA, 1964. Very Good+
A classic live album – one of the first in soul music, and a beautiful set of smooth soul tunes from Sam Cooke! Sam's singing at the high-end nitespot The Copacabana – and like many live sets performed there, this one's tailored a bit to the classy crowd at the show – but that ... LP, Vinyl record album

RCA, 1970. Very Good
Although Brass Ring head man Phil Bodner arranged and conducted this whole set, it's actually got a great funky soul instrumental sound, with some very nice tracks, and a good hard groove – even if it is played by a bunch of RCA studio musicians. The set's an hommage to Isaac Hayes, and the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Great stuff – and the kind of group that would be easy to overlook if the tracks weren't so good! Polydor, 1976. Very Good
An enduring classic from James Brown – quite possibly the strongest of his late 70s albums, and a record that nicely balances the harder funk of the early part of the decade with a more sophisticated style that almost gets slightly jazzy at times!
